I don’t think that’s very wise, to give up a constitutional responsibility that is given to Congress,” he added.

Yo C_cK ring, what about your responsibility to the people of the US? You cannot be trusted to do their business any longer. SHAME

I may be a registered Republican, but I'm more independent today than I ever was before.

A Senate Republican task force on earmarks is expected to stop short of temporarily freezing funding for pet projects, breaking with the party’s presidential nominee and House GOP leaders who are trying to make it a wedge issue in the election

And, thus, the chasm between conservatives and the GOP grows ever wider.

Q: How do you spell stupid?

A: GOP

And this is why and how someone like John McCain can become the ‘conservative’ candidate. Under the hood - the repubilcans and the democrats are the same product, just different brands.

It seems the gop can’t get united on anything anymore. What a joke they’ve become.

“Earmarking” should be made illegal as hell. It’s basically stealing the people’s money. Everyone see’s it but the politicians don’t care. They will spend us blind and the money goes into crooked politicians pockets....or it just gets them re-elected.

Utterly lacking in principles - that is why they became the minority party.

Instead of some textbook on campaign reform just pass laws that say you cannot donate to a candidate in whose area you do not reside and stop party donations. Make corporations establish offices everywhere they want to donate.

Hello! I'm calling from the National Republican Committee, wondering if you'd like to make another pledge...

I didn't make one to you.

We're fighting the good fight and your money will help those who represent the views of the party get elected.

Tell you what, why don't you have all those 'conservatives' in Congress just make you an earmark to fund your budget. *CLICK*

I deeply miss the days when conservative meant something to those we elected.

More and more politics looks like pro wrestling. Lots of bluster and occasional cheap shots in the ring, but in the end everyone follows the script and get paid by the same sponsors.

I did feel a strange tremor in The Force, yes. I'll try not to make a habit out of it.

The GOP should oppose McCain on this. It’s nothing but a cheap and easy play to try and score political points. Earmarks are about $35 billion of a $3.1 TRILLION dollar budget. If McCain wants to seriously address deficits and the national debt, he’ll have to address entitlements. This is just cheap politics. - What has he said about entitlements? Any news conferences coming up on that?

There are certainly wasteful projects that are funded as earmarks, but there are also many useful projects. Check around the area where you live and learn what might have been financed by earmarks.

Those who support the practice say that earmarks are critical in an election year to show voters how effective they are on Capitol Hill.

Funniest line I have heard in a long while.
