Barack Obama's aide suggested renege on Iraq troop pledge

Samantha Power paid for her "monster" dig by resigning Sunday, but Hillary Clinton's campaign seized on potentially more damaging remarks suggesting Barack Obama might renege on his pledge to pull U.S. troops from Iraq promptly.

Even before the Harvard professor and Obama's chief outside foreign policy adviser stepped down, the Clinton camp was gleefully circulating another interview where Power called Obama's 16-month withdrawal plan "the best-case scenario."

"[Obama] will, of course, not rely on some plan that he's crafted as a presidential candidate or a U.S. senator," Power told the BBC in what the Clinton campaign flagged as eyebrow-raising remarks.

"He will rely upon a plan - an operational plan - that he pulls together in consultation with people who are on the ground to whom he doesn't have daily access now, as a result of not being the President," she said.

Aides to Hillary Clinton jumped all over those comments, charging in a hastily planned conference call that it was an example of more empty words by Obama.

"The impression that one thing is said for political purposes perhaps and another thing is what's actually going to happen, is amateur hour on making foreign policy," said Clinton foreign policy adviser Jamie Rubin, a State Department spokesman in the Clinton administration.

"On foreign affairs, in particular, words matter," Rubin added. "He can't seem to run a foreign policy team the way it's supposed to run."

Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark added that Power's Iraq comments were "quite disturbing."

One has to wonder who B-HO's cabinet is going to look like and the individuals he is going to hire or call on as advisors on different domestic and international issues.........

We know who the stooges were that worked for Bill but I have a feeling even more incompetent stooges will be called on board for B-HO.........

Obama and Hillary do not have a clue on what to do over there. They are both spewing BS to the voters....It is what the voters want to hear. Those voters have no clue what is best for our nation. But hey they give these idiot candidates votes for taking over the highest office and making a big name for themselves.

I bet this will make the crazies in the antiwar movement happy

Obama better hope this isn't given wide publicity

The question is, and always has been, what if the "people on the ground that Obama doesn't have access now", tell a President Obama that a hasty draw down will cause regional unrest and endanger the United States interests? Will he go against the promises he made to his anti war (left) backers, or listen to the commanders on the ground? Even leaving a good percent of America wondering about that very question, while listening to his campaign rhetoric is reason enough to give any forward thinking person reason to pause.

Yeah. Only because they didn't include:

  1. "Hey! Let's kill some innocent civilians by carpet bombing from 20,000 feet."

    And.....

  2. "Okay guys, who's up for a war with Russia?"
Fricking numbskull.

I don't trust a word Obama or Hillary have to say but at least he is leaving open the options and seems to be willing to look to the military on the ground for opinions. Where as Hillary is telling us she is going to pull them out period. As a mother to 2 soldiers I would like nothing more than for them to be stateside but I also do not want them to go back in a 5-10 years to unknown circumstances

That dumb phd spoke the one thing demonRATS hate and fear... the truth.

Even osamaobama, if he becomes President {God forbid} would be smart enough to see what would happen to the ME if we announce that the US will be gone from Iraq on date certain.

It would be like FDR saying on January 1, 1944, that if Germany and Japan don't surrender by December 31, 1944 , the USA will bring all of our troops home.

Are these lines written by Mark Steyn or are there actually people who say these things.

This Semantha Power is scary on a number of counts. How can someone be a full professor at any school of government with no experience in government? Second, she is, basically, a journalist who writes about genocide and she has been complaining about Arab misdeeds in Darfur. That is to her credit except that neuron one does not fire and stimulate neuron two that connects Arabs, the middle east, Al Qaida and all of the things that she is complaining about.

Instead it is all liberal reflex: state a problem in the world, kick a republican for it. Most of these problems actually happened on Clinton's watch.

More to the point, what about Obama's judgment. Can't he get a foreign policy advisor who has some gravitas, some time in the saddle, even if he is a liberal. Even the Sox Burgler or Notsobright would be better than this.

Obama may well be learning that the President, even as Commander in Chief, doesn’t really get to just do whatever he likes when it comes to the military.
