Last night, Bill OReilly asked Al Sharpton the $64,000 question what happens if Hillary Clinton gets the nomination even if Barack Obama comes into Denver leading in pledged delegates? After the losses in Texas and Ohio, the new meme has the superdelegates wondering whether Obama can win a general election. If Hillary can make it closer by the time the convention rolls around, say to within 70 or so pledged delegates, the superdelegates will throw their support to the most competitive candidate.
After hesitating a bit, Sharpton makes it clear that he and his supporters wont accept a brokered outcome:
Superdelegates are not Supermen. The party cant say it represents the concept of one-man, one-vote democracy and then make backroom deals that ignore the popular vote and the will of the electorate. They will march in the street to protest a Hillary nomination if she comes into Denver trailing Obama.
Strong words indeed.
Duane and I discussed this today, and he thought that putting Obama at the bottom of the ticket will avoid a walkout. I dont think Obama will be willing to tie his political fortunes to Bill and Hillary Clinton, and I dont think that his supporters would forgive him easily if he did. The Clintons are everything that his campaign opposed insider deals, nasty personal attack strategies, and the politics of the Beltway. Accepting that bottom slot would endorse all of that and eliminate the one advantage he gives the Democrats.
Sharptons threat gives Obama potent leverage to keep from accepting a convention demotion. If his supporters start talking about third-party movements, the Democrats are finished up and down the ticket and they know it.
UPDATE: My apologies Red Lasso seems to have a problem with this episode from OReilly. Hopefully it will work again soon; it worked when I loaded this initially.
I’ll see your prediction and raise you a bet-they’re-wishing-they-weren’t-doing-it-in-2008 !!!
Which is why I advise my friends that the minimum loadout for home protection includes a handgun, shotgun, semi-auto rifle, and several thousand rounds of ammo plus plenty of mags
Why does this sound a lot like “we’re moving to Canada if...blah, blah, blah...”
Chicago 1968 Redux...
Grab the popcorn, and have fun watching the WaterCannons..
“It really looks bad for the Dems right now. I cant believe they are doing this.”
I can...
It’s the “New Left” versus those that “Bought and Paid For” the Party with the New Left’s money.
It’s really a fight between TWO SEPERATE PARTY’s. The Democrats, and the Shadow Party.
My, my. Whatever happened to,
I HAVE A DREAM that some day...people will be judged by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin.
Hmmmmmmmm?
Just as I said before. If clintoon gets the nomination the blacks will walk, and if the messiah gets the nomination, hillary backers will walk.
It looks like a no win situation for either candidate.
IMHO the clintoons are all washed up. They are what you say, no longer relevant.
Nope, I can’t take that bet. Because I have a sneaking suspicion you’re right!
Sadly? More like - Funny! The Democratic party, which kept and fought for slavery, instituted Jim Crow laws, hamstrung civil rights laws and continues to revere a former Klansman as their archetypal senior Senator, will always get 90% of the black vote.
Why? Because race hustlers like Al Sharpton and Charlie Rangle say the word, the black community revert to the largest pen of sheeple in the country.
Hmmm. You are right, that IS sad...
This Dim election is so entertaining. How will the powers that be manage to slip Hillary in the top spot!
“Obama really won Texas. He will receive more delegates than Hillary”
For Democrats and thier voters, MEDIA PERCEPTION matters far more than actual fact.
And we have seen so, so many examples of this in the past.
The real question is why is Hillary still in the race knowing full well she will be trailing in the pledged delegates and popular vote going into the convention. It is hubris and selfishness.
Indeed, this may be more than the ol' microwave can handle. Better go commercial-grade...
“The real question is why is Hillary still in the race knowing full well she will be trailing”
Because the Machine behind her already has invetsed MILLIONS in her, with the promise of a return of BILLIONS for them.
And they have several months to destroy Obama’s reputation before the convention comes around.
THIS is why we voted for Hillary on March 4th. Seven weeks of this mayhem—and maybe more! It’s wonderful to behold. Over on DailyKos, nasty skirmishes are breaking out in every thread. The seeds have been sown. “1968 Redux” is in the cards. Rejoice!
Rats will always feed on themselves when boxed together in a cage........
if Obama gets the nomination every black around this country will be voting some more than once and you can guarantee that if he loses the election blacks will be rioting and crying about how they have been supressed, how racism is alive, how the poor black man is trodden on again
bla bla bla
that news will be around the world
The amount of blacks I have seen interviewd or I have asked who say I am voting because he is black is unbelievable
Imagine whites saying I’m voting because he is white, the cries of racism would be heard aroiund the world , that person wound end up losing his job, libs would tarbget his home, his family , his car etc etc
Anyway now we have the black man running does this mean we now can get rid of this racist policy of affirmative action.
This just shows why affirmative action is not needed
I just hope the journalists , the media etc will start raising this question up.
They can only destroy him with some real facts and that could be counterproductive for Hillary in the general election. Blacks, the Dems most loyal constituency, will not turnout for Hillary and destroying Obama effectively removes him from being the VP nominee. I just don't see the Dem party committing political suicide by overturning the results at the ballot box and stealing the election for the Clintons over the black guy. Such an action would not only affect this election, but future ones.
