Does every thread involving a child have to get an abortion reference added?
HMMM....yes.
That is very true, but in the here and now what is the problem with providing the child with a procedure that may prevent alot of heartache?
The reference here is hardly gratuitous. When 80% of DS babies are in fact aborted (usually on physician recommendation), and prominent ethicists are arguing that ALL of them should have been killed, a thread on DS just naturally turns to abortion, don't you think?
Why?
I know what you mean. They’re the most genuine people I’ve ever met. No pretense, no reserved emotions, just purity
In the USA alone we kill 3,000 innocent tiny humans each day before they can even draw a breath of air. EVERY thread should have an abortion reference until that holocaust is halted.
Sometimes people take rabbit trails regarding something they are thinking are or bothered about. It’s normal. Here I think , it’s on topic. I encourage every one that comments about abortion though to be careful. Statistics suggest 1 out of every 4 children is aborted. FR isn’t exempt. There are probably many people here too, that hurt. I don’t mind the “abortion” posts as long as they don’t start name calling. That’s just me though.
God bless these parents.
Praying for them and the little girl.

I have a huge, Gorbachev-sized one on the back of my head. I lived around such polite people that I was almost 40 before someone mentioned it to me, even though I’d had shaved heads several times before that.
BTTT What CD said!
We never hesitated to take our sons to an orthodontist to improve their appearance. Our older son in particular has a greatly improved profile thanks to correction of a significant overbite. If either of them had a correctible feature or deformity which would cause them undue social difficulties, I think we'd consider surgery, provided they had the capacity to understand and not be too frightened by it. There are plenty of ways for them to be unique and interesting individuals without needlessly hurting their social and professional prospects. We live in an appearance-conscious culture, for better or worse.
His wasn’t flat, so we had other concerns than just cosmetic. But, the timing was thought out. He has had braces too.
“Cosmetic Surgery” is misleading here. What is probably in view is more of a combined neurosurgery, plastic surgery, oral surgery, opthalmologic surgery combination to correct certain features of a downs patient face. This will probably require craniotomy, multiple osteotomies of the facial bones and orbital bones, and resuspension of the entire eye and its muscles. These surgeries can last all day and longer. There is significant post operative morbitity and possible mortality. All this on a child who has not made a choice for a non-life threatening diagnosis? Not exactly a little nose job this.
Yeah, that.
I also have to say as a mother of an autistic child who appears "normal," that there is some blessing in people knowing right away what is wrong with your child and what kinds-of behaviors to expect. I can't even count how many times I had to explain away my son's behavior to people who just thought he was a brat.
WOW what a scary number, I really had no idea it was that high.
Wrong!
Nobody loves the child more than the parents and i trust their judgement over all others.
It is very similar to the terry schiavo case. The problem was the parents loved her and the “husband” didn’t.
