Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11

Obama's Pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Has a History of What Even Obama's Campaign Aides Say Is 'Inflammatory Rhetoric'

By BRIAN ROSS and REHAB EL-BURI

March 13, 2008—

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial." He said Rev. Wright "is like an old uncle who says things I don't always agree with," telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.

Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope."

An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright's sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.

Sen. Obama told the New York Times he was not at the church on the day of Rev. Wright's 9/11 sermon. "The violence of 9/11 was inexcusable and without justification," Obama said in a recent interview. "It sounds like he was trying to be provocative," Obama told the paper.

Rev. Wright, who announced his retirement last month, has built a large and loyal following at his church with his mesmerizing sermons, mixing traditional spiritual content and his views on contemporary issues.

"I wouldn't call it radical. I call it being black in America," said one congregation member outside the church last Sunday.

"He has impacted the life of Barack Obama so much so that he wants to portray that feeling he got from Rev. Wright onto the country because we all need something positive," said another member of the congregation.

Rev. Wright, who declined to be interviewed by ABC News, is considered one of the country's 10 most influential black pastors, according to members of the Obama campaign.

Obama has praised at least one aspect of Rev. Wright's approach, referring to his "social gospel" and his focus on Africa, "and I agree with him on that."

Sen. Obama declined to comment on Rev. Wright's denunciations of the United States, but a campaign religious adviser, Shaun Casey, appearing on "Good Morning America" Thursday, said Obama "had repudiated" those comments.

In a statement to ABCNews.com, Obama's press spokesman Bill Burton said, "Sen. Obama has said repeatedly that personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church. Sen. Obama does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms. Like a member of his family, there are things he says with which Sen. Obama deeply disagrees. But now that he is retired, that doesn't detract from Sen. Obama's affection for Rev. Wright or his appreciation for the good works he has done."

The level of hatred and rage in the “reverend's” voice is terrifying.

MORE terrifying is that he is being believed - passionately. Listen to his followers - and this is across the nation.

Listen to Michelle - who rules the roost in her home...

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/12/071226003611.htm

Let these people near the Oval Office and there will be bloodshed, Rodney King kind, across this nation - and I fear the "Uppity Blacks" that don't espouse to the tenets of this church - may be the first to be attacked. (Most of these "Uppities" are republicans - many, many good people who DO salute the flag of their country.

Remember, this churches avowed allegiance is to "The Mother Country - Africa" and that Obama has vowed he will disassemble the military, bring the troops back, and divert all the money to rebuilding Africa/

I wonder why none of these people GO to Africa and try to do just that - instead of living here in their mansions, driving their Bentley's etc - They could support - he*l, they could BUILD whole villages over there and set up cottage industries and provide well, seeds = and dodge the machete wielding murderers of rival tribes. Seems like they need some honest leaders over there. Pouring money over there - as we have/do = is like throwing gasoline on a bon fire.

If these people were sincere in their concern for the Africans, they'd divert their time and money TO Africans. I'll contribute to one way tickets.

No, There true goal, doubt not, is to take over this country = Black Power - and make Whitey pay...

This guy is a complete looney-tunes.

If Obama wins the nomination, we need to keep this guy up front and center in the media.

Too bad we don't have a decent candidate who could benefit from this...

You think America is the Whore of Babylon - I don't think Rev is referring to a country = else, how could Germany have escaped the title - how could Communist Russia have not been so designated?

I rather think it refers to a religion - one that has spent millenia spilling innocent blood = etc

America is NOT the Great Harlot...and if you are so convinced then you must be planning on doing what you quoted: Come out of her, my people, so you will not take part in her sins and so you will not receive her plagues, because her sins have piled up all the way to heaven and God has remembered her crimes.” Have you left yet or do you even live in America - Rhetorical - no need to answer - as I really don't care

And with that, I close my posts to you -

You ask questions, answer them, and say goodby. Ok. goodby.

There may have been other answers and clarifications, of course. You will find, in your travels, that often people disagree with you becuase they are using a different set of input groups and criteria than you are. Sometimes there are overlaps. Sometimes it includes different interpretations of the same data. Sometimes you will think they are full of baloney, and sometimes they will actually bring you to their position.

You’ll see what I mean...eventually...

I scanned the article and I think they left out the best part. You have to see this on video to believe it. But here's the quote from the Reverend:

“Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.”

Well, it was on ABC News this morning...as well as Fox News last night and today. Bill O. just did two segments on it and Hannity has been covering it nonstop. Bill says the lefty media will be forced to cover it tomorrow.

I was telling folks this months ago here and was lambasted by some FReepers that this was bigoted of me and irrelevant.

Glad to see at least FOX on it.

How in the Hell can such a man even run for POTUS. He makes Eugene Debs look like James Madison.

RUSH: I have but one question remaining for Senator Obama. Senator Obama, now that Senator Clinton has apologized for Geraldine Ferraro's remarks about you, will you apologize for your pastor's statements about whites? Will you apologize for your pastor's statements about America? Will your pastor apologize -- or will you apologize -- for your pastor suggesting we got what we deserved on 9/11? Will you apologize for your pastor's statements on Israel, or ally? Now that Hillary has apologized for Geraldine Ferraro.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, I have to amend something. I said I had one final question for Barack Obama, and that final question was, "Will you apologize for your pastor's hatred for America, hatred for whites, hatred for Israel?" I need to amend it. I have one other question for Senator Obama. "Senator Obama, your wife has recently been quoted as saying America's a mean nation. Your wife has recently been quoted as saying that for the first time in her life she's proud to be an American while your candidacy is on the rise. Your wife has had many, many critical things to say about her life in this country and her future and her past. Senator Obama, could it be that your wife's view of America has been poisoned and corrupted by your pastor? Could it be, Senator Obama, that the best thing you could do is get your wife out of that church? Unless, of course, you subscribe yourself to your pastor's sermons and preachings."

Will Obama Apologize Like Hillary?

IS that an issue?

This does seem to be getting some legs and Malcolm O did attend this church for 20 years.

He can't claim it was a photo op where he just brushed up accidentally with some black supremacists.

just couldn’t chill with all this until the election. I guess it’ll help conservatives because all the youngsters and starry eyed idiots are going to stay home now? Otherwise I am surprised the attacks happened before he had the nomination.

Wow, this man is scary. I would prefer Clinton get elected than Obama. I don’t think Clinton would really change the status quo that much but things like that really scare me about Obama.

Ok I get it. If Rush waited, people would have either said cheap last minute or Hillary would have been the emergency replacement and gotten the sympathy vote. Now it’s just raw and out there and if she takes it, it’ll leave a nasty taste in their mouths carrying over into the election. I guess this is the best time.
