Barack Obama's pastor's words echo through campaign
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 14, 2008 | Scott Martelle

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright may have stepped down as pastor at Barack Obama's church in Chicago, but his sermons are still echoing through the presidential campaign -- some rather vile ones, as captured in a video that recently made its way to YouTube.

As our friends at The Swamp reported a little while ago, Obama's campaign is trying to put some more distance between the senator and the preacher, but given the focus on race and gender this week, expect this to simmer for a while.

"It just came to me within the past few weeks, ya'll, why so many folk are hating on Barack Obama," Wright said in the video of a Christmas sermon at Trinity United Church of Christ. "He doesn’t fit the model. He ain't white. He ain't rich and he ain't privileged. Hillary (Clinton) fits the mold."

This from CNN, attributed to an Obama campaign spokesman: "Sen. Obama has said before that he profoundly disagrees with some of the statements and positions of Rev. Wright … Sen. Obama deplores divisive statements, whether they come from his supporters, the supporters of his opponent, talk radio or anywhere else."

He may deplore them, but he'll likely be forced to deal with them. Among Wright's comments about Hillary Clinton: "Hillary was not a black boy raised in a single parent home, Barack was. Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary! Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a n-----! Hillary has never had her people defined as non-person."

From the Swamp:

Obama camp: 'Deplores divisive statements'

***************************EXCERPT************************

Video at the link....

AND

******************

by Mark Silva

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, longtime pastor at Sen. Barack Obama’s church in Chicago, has retired – but not without some forceful, parting words for his views on the presidential election campaign. CNN is reporting on the pastor’s words – and the campaign’s separation from them.

*****************************snip*********************

Obama, who has often likened Wright to an “old uncle’’ with whom he doesn’t always agree, is not supporting this message. Yet the words of the old pastor have surfaced in the media this week, a week in which questions of race and gender have come to the forefront of the Obama-Clinton contest.

**********************************snip****************************

The Wall Street Journal also ran a piece today on the Wright-Obama relationship:

(Photo of Sen. Barack Obama and Rev. Jeremiah Wright from Trinity United Church of Christ / Religion News Service)

By RONALD KESSLER

****************************snip*************************

"We've got more black men in prison than there are in college," he began. "Racism is alive and well. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. No black man will ever be considered for president, no matter how hard you run Jesse [Jackson] and no black woman can ever be considered for anything outside what she can give with her body."

Mr. Wright thundered on: "America is still the No. 1 killer in the world. . . . We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers . . . We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi . . . We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."

His voice rising, Mr. Wright said, "We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic. . . . We care nothing about human life if the end justifies the means. . . ."

Concluding, Mr. Wright said: "We started the AIDS virus . . . We are only able to maintain our level of living by making sure that Third World people live in grinding poverty. . . ."

Considering this view of America, it's not surprising that in December Mr. Wright's church gave an award to Louis Farrakhan for lifetime achievement. In the church magazine, Trumpet, Mr. Wright spoke glowingly of the Nation of Islam leader. "His depth on analysis [sic] when it comes to the racial ills of this nation is astounding and eye-opening," Mr. Wright said of Mr. Farrakhan. "He brings a perspective that is helpful and honest."

After Newsmax broke the story of the award to Farrakhan on Jan. 14, Mr. Obama issued a statement. However, Mr. Obama ignored the main point: that his minister and friend had spoken adoringly of Mr. Farrakhan, and that Mr. Wright's church was behind the award to the Nation of Islam leader.

Instead, Mr. Obama said, "I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan.

Where’s the Star Trek pic?

Cause, “he’s dead, Jim.”

Obama can back pedal and deny, obfuscate and tap dance from now until November, but between Michelle Obama’s comments about nasty America and never being proud of it, and this pastor’s nasty words, it won’t be forgotten.

What the hell are they both smiling about? If things are as bad as Rev. Wright says they are they should be scowling!

Obamarama isn’t rich? I guess his big senator’s salary and the royalties on his bestselling book and his wife’s $200k+ job doesn’t stretch as far as it used to.

If Obama “profoundly disagrees” with his pastor’s rhetoric, why did he not leave his “church” years ago? Did he ever publicly express disagreement with Wright before Wright was exposed as the racist, anti-semitic, radical black nationalist that he is? What exactly does he disagree with? Obama is trying to perpetrate a fraud upon the American electorate. He’s trying to pull the wool over the Sheeples eyes.
He’s more Al Sharpton than Martin Luther King. His church is a Nation of Islam center in disguise.

Odd thing is, Obama is rich, he is privileged, and he is white, at least as much as he is black.

What we learn from Obama's deep affiliation with this "Christian" church is that he is a pure racist. The church's stated mission is more about black rights and the state of Africa than it is about Jesus Christ. When Obama's 'pastor' gave that filthy little speech with his obnoxious humping movements to emphasize it, the congregation was cheering in agreement. You can bet your bottom dollar that this wasn't the first racist sermon the good pastor gave, and it wasn't the first time Obama's fellow 'worshippers' cheered during a blatantly racist sermon. Obama's church is a wellspring of hatred for white people, and it is no more Christian than a mosque.

Bull$&it CNN. NOBODY worships for 20 years at a church where he profoundly disagrees with statements and positions of the pastor. In fact, the racist statements and positions of the pastor merely echo the published mission statement of that 'church'.
