Report: Assad's Brother-In-Law Behind Mughniyeh Death
IsraelNationalNews ^ | March 16, 2008 | Gil Ronen

Syrian dictator Bashar Assad's brother-in-law is suspected of engineering the assassination of Hizbullah's operations officer Imad Mughniyeh, according to a report Saturday in Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siasa ("Politics"). The news report appeared under the headline "Mughniyeh's elimination breaking the back of Damascus regime."

The suspicions against the man, Colonel Wasef Shweikat, surfaced after his wife, Bashar Assad's sister Bushra, relocated to Paris with her children following the assassination. The move followed a split between Bashar and Bushra, which began when Mugniyeh informed Bashar of a plot against his regime.

The paper said Shweikat met with a senior American intelligence officer in a European country. Mughniyeh got wind of the clandestine meeting and informed Bashar personally about it. This is what caused the rift between Bashar Assad and his sister.

Bashar slapped his sister in the face in the course of one of their arguments, after he informed her of the suspicions against her husband. Assad told his sister that Shweikat and the American agent met to discuss a possible coup in Syria, in which Shweikat would seize power...

WHOA! That’s interesting....

Syria helps Iran train and supply Hezbollah...so why is Assad’s brother-in-law involved with assassinating it’s leader?

The plot thickens....

Yeah, yeah, I'm microwaving popcorn on this one, but I can't follow the plot.

1. Shweikat, Assad's intelligence chief meets with American intelligence officer in European country.
2. Mugniyeh finds out about this, claims it's a plot for a coup against Bashar Assad and rats out Shweikat.
3. Bushra (not the Japanese monster, who fought Godzilla, but Assad's sister) gets slapped by said brother, who then accuses sis's husband of plotting a coup.
4. Shweikat then offs Mugniyeh for ratting him out and Bushra takes off to Europe with her kidlets.

Here's where I lose the thread. Where's Waldo, er, Shweikat? Why hasn't he been offed? Why hasn't there been a purge of the intelligence agency to find the other plotters? How could Shweikat get away with murdering Mugniyeh without Assad's approval? What would the Iranians and Hezballah do to Assad for murdering their fair-haired boy, Mugniyeh.

The story is good as far as it goes. But it seems like there'd be more happening, if it were true. This story could be a disinformation op, to split up the evildoers and get them fighting one another.

Wait, ok, the popcorn's done, back to the show.
