Being "Black" requires only a state of mind: Victimhood.
I think it's going overboard to interpret what he said about his grandmother as 'trashing' her.
Now if it turns out that she never said what he claimed, then I agree with you.
But if what he said was true, then he merely "outed" her.
I understand the position that some families take to keep all secrets, and reveal no imperfections.
If Obama has in the past, or continues to repeat these stories about his grandmother, then he is a cad. But to point it out as one example in one speech, in my mind is not beyond the pale.
Frankly I have had it up to here with the idea that we are not supposed to speak ill of our own. It is one thing when we are average Joe's and Josephine's living out our little lives to expect a certain amount of privacy. But people who run for high office should expect a proctological level of scrutiny. If he hadn't revealed this nugget about his grandmother, who knows what MSM cad would have splashed it across some front page somewhere?
It would have been best if Obama had revealed some story about himself where he expressed racist thoughts or exhibited racist behavior. I can understand those who take this speech and say that basically he is pumping himself up as some holier-than-thou messiah who is grand enough to hang out with sinners.
But even so, we live in a time where everything is spun, and we are seldom told the truth until it is way too late to do anything about it.
Everyone should buy a house ... whoops ... not everyone.
Eliot Spitzer may be a hardnose, but he's honest and upright ... whoops ... his first name should be John.
They may be boring but at least Republicans know how to run a government efficiently ... whoops ... keep that continuing resolution open for one more earmark.
Republicans are anti-communist patriots ... whoops ... Delay is lobbying for a ChiCom sweatshop owner in the Marianas.
beleive it or not
he’s not, since people have found out about his racist views his poll number have gone up
1. now the reasons for this is either
the media have done a good job to cover oabma’s racist views
2.people actually agree with him
or 3. people haven’t heard the truth about obama and that the left along with the media are quite alright to have racism in America but only if blacks are racist towards whites and others
when I heard matthews say that I was just stunned
Is it any wonder obama is still in the race when idiots like matthews in the media will not do their job and excuse racism by obama
matthews and his assocaites are no better than oabma, his wife and wright
Here’;s me thinking it was supposed to be the left which hated racism
seems not they actually encourage it
he not though is he as his poll numbers have gone up due to many ignorant american idol voters out there
or
they too are racists like obama, his wife and wright
Obama is clearly a racist with extreme left views, his wife clearly has the same views
his preaher the man he loves is clearly a racist
the congregation are clearly racist
Obama is clearly anti American
and yet some idiots seem to think this election is another American idol or they have the same racist views as Obama
either way it is sad that this man is still in the race and if this had been MCain he would have been asked and really forced to have stepped down from the senate from the left, from the media and especially from the black community
just thought
You thought Obama told the truth
the man has being lying about everything since he went for the nomination
I think it’s a shame that so many have been suckered by him
are you for real
I felt sick hearing that speech, defending racism and some think he is a good man
Now another story of obama has been caught lying again
Of course the obama american idolm fainting voters will never see it like that
are you for real

That being said, a number of well-respected people across the political spectrum consider Obama's speech to be a decent speech, and Obama as a reasonable candidate for office.
You have to ask yourself why you have such extreme views on Obama and his speech. It is your opinion which is on the tail end of the bell curve.
I used to be a "conservative ideologue". For example, if someone ever said anything bad about guns, then he was in my eyes forever a commie pinko bastard.
Maybe I have mellowed a bit in my old age, or maybe I have seen a lot of ideologues tramp off into the fever swamps while real actual people with conflicted views actually move this country forward.
Reagan was a truly great president, but he was not an ideologue and he did a bunch of things that I found personally reprehensible such as not killing the Dept. of Education, allowing for humungous budget deficits, the illegal alien amnesty program, and dealing with Saddam.
But these are things that his administration felt they needed to do, or else allowed to happen while the more important work of ending Communism was being conducted.
We survived Carter. We survived Teddy Kennedy and Tip O'Neill. If Obama is elected we will survive him.
Unlike most of the nervous nellies on this site, I do not believe that we are a hair's breadth away from domination by an Islamofascist Caliphate.
The one thing I liked about his speech was that he expressed what I experience in my life. Maybe you are surrounded by perfect people who have never ever said anything even mildly racist, or never ever acted in any way that could ever be interpreted as ethnocentric, but that is not the real world I come from.
Sure it would be better if such words were spoken by someone who came from a more reasonable background, and not someone who regularly went to a church which is unarguably lead by a racist SOB.
Still it was refreshing. I have been involved in numerous conversations on bussing, affirmative action, illegal aliens, etc. where most, but not all, of the viewpoints were rational and non-racist.
If we want to go forward as a nation, then we need to fess up to this. I am glad that this whole incident has shone a light on what goes on in some Black churches. Conservative Ideologues have been telling me for quite some time that most Blacks are conservative in many ways, its just their political leaders that are a bunch of commies. Well now it turns out that we also have to fear their religious leaders!
Maybe a bunch of true Bible-breathing Christians need to start attending these churches to help them keep on the straight and narrow path of love and compassion and keep off the wide and wild path of hatred and bigotry.
I don’t go to church, I do know what racism is and Obama has racist views.
The man who you said told the truth has never told the truth, yet again he has been outed for filling out a form on his liberal views.
He has never told the truth about what he heard from his racist preacher
first he saids to major garrett that he never heard anything
two days later he said he heard some
then he says well if he had heard them he would have asked him to quit like he did for Imus but guess what his racist preacher, the man he calls like family, the man who he says he admires is retiring so need to say anything
Now if he wants to tell the truth then tell the people about what he did hear and what he never.
Now my view is that anyone who votes for him is voting for a racist anti American person or they are just been hoodwinked by him.
I am sick to death of this man trying to think we are all that thick like it seems some of his ovters are and some of that racist congregation.
He is a racist , I am waiting to hear what a typical white person is, I have just heard him going on about blacks and rioting which I found disgusting.
If this was white man he would have been hounded out of office and certainly not supported by those fools which think he is the second coming or something
As for you saying what you think I am then you are wrong, I came to this country after living inmany countries, I looked into the politics here and found that the right is more to my view.
Having lived in many countries and having been around I can tell you that I know a racist when I see one and I know those people who are so narrow minded that they either believe everything they see or they beleive the MSM
