You are absolutely correct—however, he is despicable to ‘throw his white grandmother under the bus’ and compare her personal fears/words to a topdog black preacher who not only preached his hate of America to his flock in a so- called ‘House of God’ but put it out on dvd’s for sale to others (to increase the membership?)-—he is nothing but an ‘empty suit’ Rat politician who is smart and savvy enough not to use Sharpton,Jackson or even Rev Wright tactics in hopes of fooling others into voting him into the White House-—not that the Beast is one bit better but we should know by now what she really stands for (get back into the WH to steal the rest of the silverware)

A new NY Times
editorial due out tomorrow is comparing Obama speech to...Lincoln's inaugural speech, FDR's inaugural speech, and JFK's speech on religion.
How is it that this liberal rag compare a speech given during the most important periods of our American history (civil war and the great depression) with a damage-control speech by a rookie senator in the midst of a primary?
Then again, it's the liberal New York Times. What else can you expect?

Lets hope we do not!
I really think the media is giving Obama too much credit.
One of my oldest and dearest friends is black.
She initially liked Obama. She will not vote for him now.
At lunch she told me that this is not over. Far from it.
He has created a chasm that he cannot close.
She has worked at the same office for years, and while all her coworkers know she is a Christian, it wasn't until today that someone asked her which Baptist Church she attended.
Obama has created suspician and likely racism where there wasn't any.
I pray daily that this evil man is exposed, and never considered electable to POTUS.

I was wondering along similar lines on the way to work this morning. My commute takes me past a Baptist church in a minority district and I couldn’t help but idly wonder what people’s impressions of other Black churches would be (or become). Wright (and Obama’s bungling, if nothing else) have done a great disservice to the Black community IMHO.

Despite my anger with McCain, I’m more likely to vote for him now that Obama is spouting off like this.

I grew up in a Southern Baptist church...when I turned 13 I left the church because I did not like some of the things the preacher said...and that preacher WAS my (real) Uncle.

we need him to be the nomineeI don't think that can happen. The Clintons have way too much information and Ruth no longer works for them. They surely have a sufficient number of party Bigs by the short hairs and that isn't limited necessarily to the superdelegates.

I agree with the vast majority of people who have heard or read the speech, and I am an "Obama fainter". I thought FreeRepublic was supposed to be a place for the free exchange of intelligent points regarding politics, philosophy, and the news of the day. What exactly in his speech do you defend? His trashing of his grandmother? Enlighten us on why you are feeling faint over this speech.
To: Windcatcher
Yes he has.
The liberal media, in an attempt to prop Obama up, have done even more damage.
Stating that Mr. Wrights rants are moderate compared to other “black churches”. What were they thinking?
I don't believe for one moment that Obama wants to unite this Country, but rather divide it.
What that will consist of, I don't know, but I am certain it would not be whats best for our Beloved Country.

Remember when they told us that Hillary was the smartest woman in the world? And Bill was brilliant? And look at them now.
The lib media has moved on to their new and freshly manufactured candidate.

"Stating that Mr. Wrights rants are moderate compared to other black churches. What were they thinking?"
They weren't, or I should say, they were thinking, "we'd better save Obama's bacon, pronto," so they rushed to his defense and said something amazingly stupid. Wonderful. How many whites will now look upon every Black church and churchgoer with suspicion? "How many of them carry the same hatred?" That sort of fear isn't being said out in the open, because it's visceral, and that's what makes it truly damaging. This whole controversy has widened the divide, not narrowed it.
Why say such a thing? I think it's related to the "Obama fainter" syndrome. For decades people in this country (especially whites) have been taught, had it beaten into them, that racism is wrong. They should hate racism, they should hate racists, and they should bend over backwards to correct the results of it. That last point has led lots of naive white people (the ones who didn't grow up poor--this cannot be stressed enough) to feel guilty for not undergoing discrimination, for not being consigned to the ghetto, etc. So along comes Obama, and this is their big chance at redemption. If they can make this man President, then perhaps they can have their "sins" absolved. Perhaps this will finally prove that whites aren't racists. So the media, the college students, and anyone else afflicted with this guilt breathless rush to Obama's defense--and stick their feet into their mouths up to the knee. Way to go, geniuses. You just scared 20 million whites. What do you do for an encore--proclaim the virtues of MS-13?
I wonder how the great many whites who live in trailer parks plan to vote. I'll bet it's not for Obama. You see, they don't have reason to feel guilty. Objectivity can be awfully liberating.

I'm glad someone running for office finally had the courage to tell the truth and stand by an imperfect person rather than flushing him down the memory hole. But Obama didn't tell the most important truth of all. That is: I stayed in that church for 20 years and called him my mentor because I believe everything he said is right.
No, Obama said, "Gosh, what he said wasn't very polite, but can you blame him??"
If Obama could have kept his voters by his side while also denouncing everything the man said, he would have.

Obama throws his grandmother under the bus for one comment on her fear of black men yet he can't repudiate Wright's 20 years of racism and anti-America pastoral rhetoric? Obama is a racist!

Way to go, geniuses. You just scared 20 million whites. I don't think that's the problem really. It's that most of us white people have been walking around supposing that if we treat people decently, then we'll be seen as decent people.
There is nothing I've done to earn the enmity of these particular people. I don't even know them! There is nothing I can do to erase it either.
Now we're all going to pull back in suspicion. It's too worrisome, too hard, we're too afraid of offending someone.

That is exactly what my friend was saying.
After years of working together, years of getting to know one another, now they are suspicious.
They want to know, is she their friend Monday through Friday, but on the weekends, nods and claps at racist preaching.
She feels terrible.
At first offended, but she admits, had this been a white man, in a racist church, she would be “curious”.
She too believes the divide has widened, and that this will get very ugly, very fast.
She also felt his speech did little to ease fear or suspicion, but instead he just tossed gasoline on the fire.
Its been interesting to see her transformation from “Obama fainter” to a complete, and utter contempt for the man.
White guilt is stupid. Very few of us or our ancestors had anything to do with slavery.
Electing a racist, to repent of a sin they didn't commit is even more ignorant. Do leftist even have brains at all?

I went to a Baptist Church for a while during my teens. After a couple of months, I left for good because I felt the preacher was not living up to his sermons (in fact, it was well known among those attending that he was cheating on his wife).
If he had been spewing lying bigoted hate and venom like this Jeremiah Wright clown has made a career out of doing, I probably wouldn't have made it through his first 'sermon'. But Hussein ate that garbage with a spoon for 20 years.

"Its too late. Wright has already damned you." That's a good thing to!
If I'm going to be damned, I want to be damned by the devil himself!
