Russias Putin orders aid for Kosovo Serb enclaves

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin asked ministers on Monday to draw up plans to send humanitarian aid to Serb-populated enclaves of Kosovo, Russian media reported.

Moscow has joined its ally Belgrade in opposing Kosovo's independence from Serbia and has refused to recognise it as a sovereign state. The United States and most European countries have recognized Kosovo's independence.

Russian television showed a meeting between Putin and his ministers at which Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the Serbian government had requested the aid, citing a deterioration of the situation in Serb-populated areas of Kosovo.

"We considered it important to respond to this request," Lavrov said.

Putin ordered Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov to "work on this issue", Itar-Tass news agency quoted the Russian president as saying.

He did not say if Kosovo's government, which Russia has described as illegitimate, would be consulted over the aid. Putin said the despatch of humanitarian aid should not be politicized.

"When we talk about political issues, it is one side of the problem, humanitarian issues are another," Putin said.

"If we look at humanitarian issues, we should proceed from the fact that all the people of this enclave must feel alright, irrespective of their nationality. If there is a need for humanitarian aid, let's do it but without political overtones."

Lavrov said the Serbian government in Belgrade had asked for medicine, medical equipment, non-perishable food supplies and hygiene products for the Serb-populated enclaves in Kosovo.

We should be helping the Serbs after what Clinton did to them. Instead, Bush appears to want to cover up for Clinton.

Here we are, once again supporting the wrong side.

How can there be such a disconnect between our lofty goals and ideals, our stated policies, and the actual policies our government follows?
We spend billions to fight “terrorism” while at the same time we spend billions arming terrorist states and terrorists.

It doesn’t seem to matter which party occupies the White House or has the majority in congress either - they both condone the ongoing arrogance and stupidity of the State Department.

“humanitarian aid?” Surely Russia’s little brothers are worth more than that, no? Where are the holy Russian crusaders to liberate holy Serbia from the infidel USA? Has Russia abandoned their brother? No! That could not be.

"You guys"? What is that supposed to mean?

I have no connection to Serbs. As far as I know, I have never met a Serb. I am outraged at Clinton killing around 3,000 Serbs, mostly women and children. These Serbs posed no threat to us and had done no harm to us. Nothing justifies these perverted killings.

Clinton killed 3,000 Serbs? Are you nuts? That’s a figure that even Milosevic wouldn’t have used.

Although it saddens me to say it, they were expendable, their lives of negligible consequence. The only thing that mattered was to keep Monica off the front page of the paper, guarantee Bill's continued political surivial and with it Herself's chance at being America's first Lesbian president.

Not so. The figure was between 1,200 to 2,500 civilians and 1,002 soldiers. Human Rights Watch has the civilian figures as low as 489. That’s still about one civilian for ever soldier. The Human Rights Watch figures do not include civilian deaths from the aftermath of the bombing (deaths caused because of the destruction of targeted hospitals, bridges, etc.).

But hey, look on the bright side. You’re supporting the Klintonista creation of a new Islamo-fascist state in Europe. Be proud.

BTW, if you think this is over and the Serbs “lost,” you don’t know the history of Kosovo very well.

Aha, that Hitler also said when he finished bombing Belgrade in 1941.

You mean in the way that Milosevic killed 300 000 Albanians and put them in mass graves? Well, no, I`m affraid those victims were real one not virtual.

Serbia to this day has not produced an accurate accounting of their losses during Allied Force - or at least has not made the accounting public.

Either way, it is odd that they prefer to keep the information to themselves, rather than releasing it to the Serbian public. It's almost as if they prefer to use the gray area to exploit for propaganda purposes, but we know no responsible government would do such a thing, don't we.

Milosevic, btw, used HRW's numbers when his State Prosecutor mounted his little dog and pony show of a trial in Belgrade against NATO.

According to all official reports, you are off by a factor of at least 100x. And on this easily disproved basis, Albanians justify their land grab.

” . . . but we know no responsible government would do such a thing, don’t we.”

People who live in glass houses . . .

To support the war, your great hero Klinton and his pal Notsobright, through the State Department on April 19, 1999 claimed that the Serbs “were feared to have” killed 500,000 ethnic Albanians. 500,000! Your big “massacre” was 40-45 in Racak. Klinton used a 100,000 murdered figure from Secretary of Defense William Cohen. Those were the numbers the MSM reported.

You’re talking about the Serbs upping the number by a thousand or two for “propaganda” purposes. That argument is, at best, disingenuous.

Maybe you still believe the MSM and the Klintonistas. If that’s the case, I hope you’ll stop being an MSM sucker and wake up!
