This is why politicians don't like to release their tax returns!
Bloomberg News crunches the numbers on Sen. Barack and Michelle Obama's newly-released tax returns and finds:
"The Obamas' donations to all recipients totaled $2,350 in 2000, $1,470 in 2001, $1,050 in 2002, $3,400 in 2003, and $2,500 in 2004. They also paid federal taxes totaling $311,044 during the same period on their $1.2 million of income."
Actually, it’s less. In my house, political contributions do not count as “charity”.
The IRS usually agrees with this, but I guess there is an exception for the CBC?
1.2 Million but Mrs. Obama says they are poor and can barely make it because they are black. Yes, indeed, I wish I could find some poverty like, I could use 1.2 mil about now.
I know I’m being immature, but I love a perfectly legitimate word that makes people uneasy. Douche and Uranus are fun also.
I gave more than that every year but one of them on 1/6th to 1/5th the salary...pathetic.
I imagine a lot of it is book royalties, since Michelle took leave from her 320K job to campaign. So my best guess is a combination of royalties, investment income and his senator salary. Maybe Michelle worked a few months of the year, I don't know.
I gave more than that every year but one of those on 1/20th of the income...that’s pathetic.

Corrected, see other post...missed his 1.2 mil in income, saw only the tax amount at first.
Wow!! Not very charitable people eh? Can’t say I’m all that surprised but I wouldn’t have guessed that little.
Of course, this would be much, much harder to do if I had over $100,000 to give away each year rather than the amount I budget (12% last year, I'm aiming for 15% this year).
A shower: Prennez la douche dans la salle de bain.
Well, he can now argue that he doesn’t really support Rev. Wright’s church, as he barely contributes anything.
If I had a Pastor like his I wouldn’t give much either.
Poor tax strategy. Get made an officer of your church, and give directly to those in need by distributing it through the church.
I nominate The Beast for the Democratic Party Generosity Prize.
Cheapskate. I'm sure they did give that much in 2007 - since he was now running for President.
Still, he beat Gore's $300. And that was probably just used underwear.
I make 1/3 of what he does and give 10x more away.
Great man he is, Obama.
Someone needs to tell Obama’s mouthpiece that paying taxes is not giving to charity.
As a prominent member of church such as TUCC, would'nt he have tithed at 10 percent? Do his other, well heeled fellow parishoners tithe at 10 percent and will they be 'surprised' that he didn't? And if the financially well-off of TUCC don't do the heavy financial lifting, how does the Church keep the lights on? Just makes me go, hmmmmmm...
I do feel wierd about questioning someone's Church, but when you appoint a volatile pastor to a campaign post this is what comes along for the ride.
What? They didn’t pay tithe to Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church?
“Geeeezz- as far as I know, you can only go back 3 years and file a 1040-X, which is a change or adjustment.”
It’s the Clintons.
