Protecting children too much will kill them. This new generation should be a doozy. Idiots

It's things like this that make me glad that I'm "from" Maine. Now if I could just get the rest of my family to see the light!

One day, I hope to be “from” NY.
Regards,

I guess a parent watching their 6 year old to make sure they don’t play with lighters and burn themselves is... well, just TOO much to ask. Better to have the Nanny State make a new law.
Pathetic bunch of losers.

LOL. THat looks almost like a cheese grater with arms and legs.
To: VermiciousKnid
This is nuts
Being one of those Eeeeeevil smokers, I cannot for the life of me fathom how a 6 year old could possibly reach the counter where lighters are usually kept???
Most counters and/or displays, are at least 5' high and most times lighters are kept behind counters.
There is something that doesn't pass the smell test here and banning novelty lighters is simply another feel-good-nany-state approach to a solution looking for a problem.

Yes, you ingrate and exile!
And should you ever return Down East from Away, the state will still be standing ... unburnt. And all due to the vigilance of our great and good Governor and his ever growing, and ever more powerful force for the greaer good: Baldacci's Sexually Ambiguous Wonk Corps B-SAWC)
Matches are also soon to be banned because they can start dangerous fires. Also banned is the eating of lobster and other cholesterol-laden crustaceans. Theys always saying that Baldacci is a a wimp. Well, no. He and the B-SAWC's have reintroduced the Death Penalty. For smoking.
If you are smart enough to obey our laws and speak Spanish, why not drop by for Somali Independence Day?

the kid would have a much better chance of making it to adulthood, eyebrows intact. You mean your kids still have their eyebrows??!!!
To: Judith Anne
I have one too . My daughter in law buys me all kinds of funny lighters. I love the tiny flashlight one & the butterfly one with the colored lights. Usually I can't figure out how they work or they are hard to push so I really don't understand how this kid was burned so badly. I taught my children not to touch what wasn't theirs. More parents ought to parent & stop blaming everyone else for what happens to their children IMHO.

Hopefully what’s next is north east states secede from the union. Then we can institute travel and immigration restrictions on their residents.

It was at one time a state of very rugged individualists.
What happened that they turned into a nursery where the government needs to take care of them?

Didn't the Supreme Court recently rule your law banning Fed Ex and UPS from shipping tobacco product, unconstitutional?

For the time being, I'm trapped here in the People's Republic of Maine.
A recent conversation with a Mainer who was ranting about Iraq led to his admitting that, well yes, he had forgotten about the World Trade Center and all that stuff.
I swear, it's like living in a minimum security insane asylum. I can feel my brain cells dying each day I live here.
The exact point where it all went horribly wrong and the state went from rock-ribbed Republican to communist, I can't say.
It's been a one-party state for about 30 years, which accounts for the rot.
To: Madame Dufarge
It's been a one-party state for about 30 years, which accounts for the rot. I would guess another victim of LBJs Great Society.
But I have to think there are still some fishermen, lumberjacks and assorted country folk who are going nuts with this nanny state crap.
