Agence France-Presse, in a report on Mumia Abu-Jamal, who has been on Pennsylvania's death row for over twenty-five years for the murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981, referred to the cop killer as a "human rights campaigner." Abu-Jamal, whose birth name is Wesley Cook, had his murder conviction upheld by a panel of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday, but the court also decided that either he must receive a life sentence, or receive a new sentencing hearing.
AFPs headline for their report read, "US court overturns rights campaigners death penalty," and its opening sentence referred to "the death sentence passed against human rights campaigner Mumia Abu-Jamal." In its closing sentence, AFP referenced how Abu-Jamal "became a leading campaigner against the death penalty" while on death row.
This isnt the first time a French organization has been sympathetic to Abu-Jamal. In 2006, the Parisian suburb of St. Denis honored the convicted murderer by naming a street in his honor....

Why the Supprise? they are french...they are “UNABLE” to get it Right.
This makes my blood boil - that creep should have been on the wrong side of the grass many years ago.
27 years and still no justice for the murdered and his family.
This guy should have been shanked in prison years ago.
Give him his gun back and turn him loose in France.
Description (various sources):
Daniel Faulkner had stopped Abu-Jamals brother for a traffic violation. When Abu-Jamal saw his brother struggle with Faulkner, police said, he shot Faulkner several times, putting a final bullet in his head as he lie bleeding on the sidewalk.
A jury agreed with the police, finding Abu-Jamal guilty of first-degree murder in 1982 and sentencing him to death. Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther, taxi driver and radio journalist, maintained his innocence.
At least five witnesses said they saw Abu-Jamal kill the policeman. A gun registered to Abu-Jamal was found by the suspects side. Abu-Jamal was wearing a holster. The gun at his side contained five spent shells. Five bullets were extracted from the slain officer that matched the shells found in Abu-Jamals gun.
Exit 51 is for you, Mumia!
O_0 They liked Ira Einhorn too.
LOL! As a Delaware native now living in northern Virginia, I’m quite familiar with both the Mumia case and that stretch of highway. ;-) There’s a diner off that exit that I used to go to on occasion.
Despite the grim name, it’s actually a pretty nice area.
Do they also have a Rue Hitler? Or would it be more respectful to call it Hitlerstrasse?
Faulkner was able to shoot Mumia, as well—the slug they took out of him in the hospital matched Officer Faulkner’s weapon.
While they were bringing Mumia in the hospital right after the shooting-several witnesses said they heard Mumia admit that he shot Faulkner, and hoped he had killed him.
They can call Mumia whatever they want—if they put the hemp necktie on him and open the trapdoor like they ought to do, I’ll call it a chiropractic adjustment
