An armed man continues to keep authorities at bay on the Walt Whitman Bridge.
The Walt Whitman Bridge between South Philadelphia and Gloucester City, N.J., has been closed since about 4:30 p.m.
New Jersey State Police Capt. Al Della Fave says troopers tried to stop a vehicle for a minor speeding violation, but the driver wouldn't pull over. He says troopers stopped the pursuit after a few minutes because the man was driving erratically and police feared someone would get hurt. After that, the driver stopped on the bridge.
State police say the driver got out of the car and smashed the windows.
He's believed to be armed with a gun and a baseball bat and he has a woman and baby with him.
Delaware River Port Authority police have stopped traffic in both directions. Many vehicles are stuck.
We'll have more information as it becomes available.

This happened a few years ago in DC when a knucklehead threatened to jump off the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. He ties up traffic for hours. People were call the radio stations BEGGING them to shoot the bast*rd.
I wonder hat has happened to those non-lethal weapons that were being developed for use by the police?

Did you see all the cars and trucks still stuck on the PA side of the bridge? Those poor people were there on the bridge for three hours...what a mess!
We have gone from OJ and his white bronco stopping traffic on the highway in Kollyforneauh, to some J.O. in a white SUV blocking traffic on a bridge in New Jersey.

Did you notice that earlier, when it appeared the woman was a hostage, the talking heads just referred to her as a woman? Later, when it appeared she might be guilty of something, along with “the gentleman” they started calling her “the lady.” The “gentleman” was swinging a bat in one hand and swinging the baby like a ragdoll in the other hand.

That truck was heading towards PA along with the SUV.
I’m talking about the cars that were heading to NJ from PA. There had to be about 50-75 cars at a standstill for those three hours. I’m not good at guessing the amount, but I couldn’t believe how many there were...three lanes across, before they started to turn around.
The NJ side made U-turns hours ago, but the eastbound ones were stuck. That’s when they reported that they were sending a tour bus to them.
Whew. So he's just playing, then.
