A man who is suspected of trying to disable a border camera east of the San Ysidro port of entry last week was arrested by Border Patrol agents after two accomplices abandoned him as he held tight to a surveillance tower.
Video from a camera on a tower next to the one the three had targeted shows two people setting up a ladder and then a third person climbing the ladder to reach the tower's built-in rungs.
When Border Patrol agents approached, the two people on the ground fled to Mexico and took the ladder, stranding the man who had scaled the tower. Agents helped the man down from about a third of the way up the 80-foot tower, and they took him into custody. Agents said the man told them he had intended to put black tape over the camera lens. When Border Patrol agents approached, the two people on the ground fled to MexicoWhy weren't the invaders shot?
In previous wars we occasionally shot the enemy.

Not to worry. They just saved him the run for the Border. They'll ‘Process’ him and turn him loose in Mexico and it will all start again. :-(

Now watch - those BA’s will get prosecuted for endangering the life of the guy .... and Pres. Bush (sigh) pardoned all sorts of low-life drug dealers and other’s but left those two BA’s to remain in prison .....

When Border Patrol agents approached, the two people on the ground fled to Mexico and took the ladder... I guess I understand. It's easier to find another friend than to replace a good ladder.

Note to DHS: Equip the towers with electrified rungs that can be deactivated only by authorised personnel.

All Kitty has to do is work for the other side. One shot and the camera is disabled. Put up a new one ... next day it is our of order again. Jees we are stupid!

This will be the fate of the "Virtual Fence".
Millions of dollars in equipment mounted on poles miles from the nearest border patrol facility or agent.
These people can steal the tires off a Border Patrol car while its moving - did anyone consider they might try to steal valuable surveillance equipment?
What happens when someone knocks down the poles or climbs them?
Does the system send a message to headquarters?
"Send help. I'm being disassembled and my parts are being stol..........."
This stuff will be on sale at the week-end flea markets before the end of the year.

One of these, with sufficient juice to back up the universally-understood warning, should do the trick:

They have it all wrong. They weren't tying to disable the camera, they were trying to steal the camera :)

(apologies to the owner of this I have forgotten who it was) I spoke with him too- I can't remember who it was. It was in 2003 or before. Kitteh's name was Pudge, and he went missing, IIRC. I also remember that Pudge was very much missed.
