WASHINGTON - An aide to President Bush has resigned because of an alleged misuse of grant money from U.S. Agency for International Development and his former employer, a Cuban democracy organization.
Felipe Sixto was promoted on March 1 as a special assistant to the president for intergovernmental affair and stepped forward on March 20 to reveal his alleged wrongdoing and to resign, White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said on Friday.
The matter has been turned over to the Justice Department for investigation, Stanzel said. He said Bush was briefed on the case and felt that the approriate action was being taken.
Sixto joined the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs in July 2007 and was assigned to deal with state legislators, Native American groups and Hispanic officials on issues such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, health, labor, transportation, the environment and energy, Stanzel said.
His previous employer was the Center for a Free Cuba, which describes itself as an independent, nonpartisan institution dedicated to promoting human rights and a transition to democracy and the rule of law in Cuba.
"Mr. Sixto allegedly had a conflict of interest with the use of U.S. AID funds by his former employer," Stanzel said. He said he did not know how much money was involved or the particulars of the allegations.
AP... always make sure Bush’s name is first word in title.
He deserves his day in court as much as the next Dem.
We had a nice run goin’ there for a bit too.. Oh well. ;-)
MSNBC will have wall to wall coverage of the Republican
“culture of corruption.”
they rarely if ever attach President in front of it .. I got tired of inserting it in parens..
I’ll be curious the amounts of monies involved here,, US AID is a money trough looking for a place to overfill
“Bush aide”, hmmm?
The truth is that this kid is probably 20-30 people removed from the president. Maybe his boss’s, boss’s, boss’s....

Don’t know what happened.
But if you hire a Cuban working for a free Cuba its not stunning if he tried to help groups he knew of that are working for a free Cuba.
Of course maybe there is more but you can’t tell it from the story.
I hear ya, I await more info,,
I am curious who the previous employer was and such.. and he only saddled up in 2007, how much funds could it possibly involve?
Either way, if in any way the regime in Cuba was undercut, it was money well blown. ;-)
This guy is a Bush Aid like the guy who cleans the toilets at Yosemite. They both work for the executive branch. That’s about it.
The story reads like this guy blew the whistle on himself. If so, sounds like he has a conscience. Either that, or fear of getting caught. At least he seems in touch with reality, unlike so many LibDems...
Sandy Burgler-now that’s what I call an aide.
Hummmm! Had he not been promoted would he have stepped forward and revealed his wrongdoings?
The kid is a college student...AP labels him a “Bush Aid!”
...and in other news, yet another (Dem) governor (Puerto Rico) indicted on corruption charges.
Dem governors and mayors are droppin’ like flies,, falling all over the place, must be global varming. ;-)
USAID is just another corrupt bureaucracy who appoints their token underlings whether competent or not.
This from a recent article:
US Rewarding Arab Terrorism
“McConnell should have included USAID on his terror-funding list. A Dec. 2007 USAID audit reported that the mission administering its funds gave money to groups and institutions affiliated with US designated terrorist organizations, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad. It warned: Without additional controls, the mission could inadvertently provide support to entities or individuals associated with terrorism.
USAID needs cleaned out, starting with this Bush appointee:
Samah Norquist is currently the Public Affairs Specialist for Arab and Muslim outreach at the Bureau of Legislative and Public affairs at USAID. ...
Prior to working at USAID, Norquist was the director of communications at the Islamic Free Market Institute (IFMI) in Washington, DC. ...
Samah Norquist is the wife of Grover Norquist. Remember a few of Norquist Muslim friends and associates have been indicted.
Here’s one...also tied into USAID.
accuses the Islamic American Relief Agency of paying Siljander $50,000 for the lobbying money that turned out to be stolen from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Speaking of USAID & terror charities:
Then, there are LRD’s activities in Iraq. In 2002, it led the pro-Saddam Hussein propaganda trip by Reps. David Bonior, Jim McDermott and Mike Thompson. (The trip was also funded in part by Shakir Alkhafaji, a Detroiter who did $70 million in business with Hussein and was named in Iraqi newspapers as being one of two Americans involved in the Oil-for-Food scandal.)
In June 2004, U.S. troops raided LRD’s offices in Iraq. That was a month after an LRD fund-raiser in Southern California, at which speakers said LRD sponsored operations in Fallujah and orphans in Afghanistan. My federal law-enforcement sources believe that LRD may have been funding terrorist insurgents in both places. (The event’s keynoter was Wagdi Mohammed Ghoneim, an Islamic cleric who has since been deported because of his meetings with two of the 9/11 hijackers.)
Often running LRD’s Iraq office was Mohammed Alomari, the group’s spokesman. He’s the author of a book that argues that the United States is a creation of Kabbalistic Jews, and that the Oval Office is a “female reproductive force.” His Daru Salam mosque radio Web site claimed Jews and the United States “organized” the 9/11 attacks.
Ironically, LRD was among the first groups to win U.S. Agency for International Development approval to receive and dole out U.S. tax dollars to the Iraqi people. A press release thanked Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) for getting the USAID seal of approval. My sources fear that some of that USAID money - which cannot all be traced - may have gone to fund insurgents.
......it’s a small world after all......
Kill the worthless program already.
