“That is not a universal ideal, but rather, a product of Western Civilization. And the role of Government can be defined by either a Hobbesian or Lockeian view of man and the state of nature. Historically, the ideal of human liberty has not been widely held.”

Very true, but all too many Americans hold the simplistic view that all mankind yearns for American style freedoms. Many don’t. Unfortunately, our current president and many other top officials hold that simplistic view.

But the Muslims and others prove them wrong. Both Iraq and Afghanistan based their constitutions upon sharia, with huge support (or insistence) from their populations. Many peoples prefer to retain their traditional cultures and values. It’s time more Americans learned that.

“Now they are in the process of losing certain portions due to both internal and external pressures. Motivations are varied, but rest assured they are no different than what has occurred in previous civilizations/empires over the millenia. However, the inevitable consequences of diversity is NOT integration, but segregation.

That means that it isn’t wholly inconceivable that one day a war of conquest will once again be engaged by a remaining trump US to claim (re-claim?) certain territories for their own us & benefit.”

I agree with you and I have said as much in a few conversations during my life, but that is a little like talking about geology.

Most of our conversations about immigration stay within a more current time span such as our lives and a couple of the next generations.

The 1965 immigration act was a fatal blow to the U.S. from which we will not recover and which will result in what you described, but even it was made possible by earlier waves of the wrong immigration.

I don’t know. It might be about even now. I think the legal immigration is now 950,000, plus refugees, mini-amnesties for specific groups and changes in various work visa programs. Up to 1.5 million are being let in legally each year.

I do know. The number of legal immigrants has slowly increased to about 1.2 million now. Because of the lack of caps on various categories of immigration, the number will continue to gradually rise. The Jordan Commission in the 1990s recommended an intake of about 300,000 annually.

These numbers are increasing our population growth to about .89% a year, the highest annual population growth rate in the developed world. By 2050, we will be a nation of half a billion people, which will have an impact on such things as infrastructure, energy needs, social welfare systems, etc. And because of chain migration, we will have a less diverse population. More than 60% of all legal immigrants are Hispanic. Combine that with the 500,000 illegal immigrants annually, which are overwhelmingly Hispanic and you have the explanation as to why by 2050 29% of the residents of the US will be Hispanic, up from the 1% in 1965. Non-Hispanic whites will be 47% of the population by 2050, down from 89% in 1965.

And the legal immigrants we are importing are largely uneducated and will be a net drain on society. I suggest you take a look at the following to get an understanding of the costs of legal immigration.

Importing Poverty: Immigration and Poverty in the United States: A Book of Charts by Robert E. Rector

Immigrants in the United States, 2007 A Profile of America’s Foreign-Born Population

But with 14 - 20 million illegals here now that have built up in just over twenty years, then the insane amnesty proposals that would allow them to bring in relatives, that twenty year accumulation of illegals could mushroom to 30 - 60 million after daisy chain effects. No one knows for sure.

The number is closer to 66 million legal immigrants over a 20 year period assuming there are only 12 million illegals here based on Robert Rector's analysis of the 2006 Senate amnesty bill, which was actually more restrictive than the McCain-Kennedy bill because those eligible for amnesty had to be here for at least two years unlike McCain-Kennedy, which allowed those who here since December 31, 2006 to qualify for legalization of status.

Senate Immigration Bill

Please note that chain migration applies to Legal immigrants now, not just those who are granted amnesty.

And, legal immigration remained at reasonable levels until the GHWB administration raised it to about 800,000, then more increases since. It was 500,00 or less most of the years since 1965, which wasn’t such a ridiculous number.

The numbers have increased each year for several reasons. First, there have been a number of mini-amnesties since 1986. It was the 1990 Immigration Act. that raised the annual ceiling from 270,000 to 700,000 for 1992-94 and 675,000 afterwards (including 480,000 family-sponsored, 140,000 employment-based, and 55,000 "diversity" immigrants) and allowed an unlimited number of visas for immediate relatives –children, parents and spouses – of US citizens, not counted under the cap.

The numbers are increaseing each year because there are categories that don't have caps, e.g., immediate family reunification. And we have birthright citizenship that adds 400,000 legal citizens each year. Once these children reach 21, they can sponsor family members to enter.

The seem about equally out of control over the past twenty years.

It has been out of control a lot longer than that. The 1965 law changed the demographics of this country forever and will continue to do so, even without an amnesty. Demography is destiny.

Many peoples prefer to retain their traditional cultures and values. It’s time more Americans learned that.

I wish more Americans felt that way. With the ever increasing influx of Hispanics into the country, the question is can the US maintain our national identity and a sense of shared endeavor.

Immigrants account for one in eight U.S. residents, the highest level in 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13. In a decade it will be one in 7, the highest in our history and by 2050, it will be one in five.

“It has been out of control a lot longer than that. The 1965 law changed the demographics of this country forever and will continue to do so, even without an amnesty. Demography is destiny.”

But the legal and illegal numbers had never been so large as since the Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty. Immigration was not so out of control from 1965 - 1987. They expected about 1.5 million to request amnesty under S-M and got about twice as many. The 10 million illegals estimate used recently is now several years old. If another amnesty were granted, the number applying would probably be closer to 20 million than 10 million.

I still believe another amnesty, plus the chain migration those millions would take advantage of to bring in more, would result in those who came here illegally and were amnestied, would result in a greater number of entrants than the legal entrants for the same 20 or so year period.

But whichever is greater, it is out-of-control and it is difficult to see how anyone would support this insanity unless they deliberately wanted to see this nation’s character changed forever, or they are making handsome profits off the new immigrants, legal and illegal, and their vision doesn’t extend beyond their next P&L statement.

Many Republicans want cheap labor, and Dems. (and deluded Republicans) expect cheap votes. A deadly mixture. And there are some number of North American Union types who want to see all these regional trading blocs become like one nation.

They expected a million and got 2.7 million.

The 10 million illegals estimate used recently is now several years old. If another amnesty were granted, the number applying would probably be closer to 20 million than 10 million.

No doubt. The 2005 Bear-Stearns Report estimated that there were 20 million.

I still believe another amnesty, plus the chain migration those millions would take advantage of to bring in more, would result in those who came here illegally and were amnestied, would result in a greater number of entrants than the legal entrants for the same 20 or so year period.

Absolutely. And that would be on top of the normal, annual LEGAL immigration numbers. It would more than triple regular immigration numbers, which is why this country would be finished as we know it once an amnesty was signed. It would be game, set, and match for this nation.

But whichever is greater, it is out-of-control and it is difficult to see how anyone would support this insanity unless they deliberately wanted to see this nation’s character changed forever, or they are making handsome profits off the new immigrants, legal and illegal, and their vision doesn’t extend beyond their next P&L statement

There has been a confluence of interests among disparate groups. The US Chamber of Commerce [profit], labor unions [members], Dem party [voters], Catholic Church [members], La Raza [political influence], ACLU [destruction of American values], etc. could care less about the long term impact of an immigration policy that is out of control--the American people be damned.

Amnesty will hasten the process, but if we keep the same legal immigration policies, it really won't matter if there is an amnesty or not.

“Amnesty will hasten the process, but if we keep the same legal immigration policies, it really won’t matter if there is an amnesty or not.”

I think the best chance to defeat another amnesty push might lay in the House, with Republicans teaming with the 40 or so Blue Dog Democrats. Or maybe they could still filibuster in the Senate.

But any change in legal immigration is a ways off. Once, in an early debate, Tancredo mentioned reducing it and the MSM reaction was as if he were some vile hater and racist for even suggesting it. And, again, no one talks numbers any more. Just simple discussion of how the legal numbers have mushroomed over the past fifteen to twenty years might wake up a few more citizens.

Eaker has been angry since this event ..........

Subject: HOO HOO

True Story from Houston Medical Center

A man went to the hospital to have his wedding ring cut off from his ‘hoohoo’. According to the nurse attending, the patient’s girlfriend found the ring in his pants pocket and she got so mad at him, she used petroleum jelly to slip the ring on his hoohoo while he was asleep.

I don’t know what’s worse:

1) Having your girl friend find out you’re married.

2) Explaining to your wife how your wedding ring got on your hoohoo.

3) Or finding out your hoohoo fits through your wedding ring.

Eeeeek will get ove this soon enough........:o)
