"In a lawsuit Van der Hooning filed against the U of I, he claims top administrators of the business school indicated there were too many "jarheads" in the program. Van der Hooning says he was ordered to reduce MBA scholarships from 110 to 17, and told to concoct "technical reasons" to dump veterans from the program."
"In other words, he claims that the U of I ordered a cover-up."

First thought - so are the admins army or navy?
But rival services might say that - but not go so far as to cancel scholarships.
My guess would be draft dodgers, at best.
llinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, a veterans' advocate and sponsor of the original U of I scholarship program, didn't find it funny.
Lt. Gov Quinn complained last November in a letter to university leaders.
"I am writing to express my continuing concern about the University of Illinois' Executive MBA program's treatment of our veterans," Quinn stated. "Since that promising beginning, I have been deeply disappointed by the University of Illinois' failure to fulfill its promise to our veterans. Instead of honoring our pledge to our veterans, the University of Illinois has cut back on its promise."
And now, the Illinois Court of Claims that heard Mr. Van der Hooning's case has ruled largely in his favor. The court last Friday upheld five of the six counts filed by the former dean, denying U of I's motion to dismiss his complaint.
The ruling by the claims court, which hears cases against state agencies, clears the way for Van der Hooning to take his case to the next venue. His lawyer, the famous Chicago patronage case attorney Michael Shakman, pledges to fight the university in circuit court. If a cover-up and retaliatory firing are proved there, it could result in punishment against the university and reinstatement of Van der Hooning's pay and position.
Sound to me like the dunderheads don’t even know who are called “jarheads” == it darned sure isn’t verterans of all services — that honorable title is reserved for Marines only.
Wow. This is pretty big. The idea that the tenured leftists at our universities might be held to account is heady stuff.
>>Sound to me like the dunderheads dont even know who are called jarheads == it darned sure isnt verterans of all services that honorable title is reserved for Marines only.<<
Not everybody is suited to be a soldier (and certainly not a marine). For example, I was raised in the army and I know I am suited for the military only in big war were we need everyone.
But everyone should at least appreciate that service.
We can’t (and should not try to) force appreciation. But we can damn sure insist they not use their government positions to discriminate against those who risk their lives to serve the country.
This is why I will never join the Alumni Association.
That, and because $60,000 was enough for anyone.
More tears that I shed for the U of I. Graduated in 1976 as a veteran with a “full-boat” veterans’ scholarship in the College of Commerce. Things have only gone really down hill since. But I knew that in the 1970’s that us Vets wouldn’t take too much cr*p from the lefty-loonies. Seems that the left doesn’t like to have opposing views.
I strongly suspect a huge weeding of the garden of administration is in order.
vaudine
I'll believe it when I see it -- not until.
The sad fact is that this a 'nothing' here in Illinois.
At one school the woman president gave to friends and family what she could steal for herself, then anouncet she was retiring and her PAY would continue for YEARS!
I agree. Smells like a Land o'(bama) Lincoln discrimination lawsuit to me.
O'bamaHaybamabamabamaho & Reverent wRight mus' be out gathering crickets to go fishin' otherwise I'm sure we'd have heard from them by now.
(I tried to edumacate a couple of 'em and durned if they didn't join up anyhow! Maybe it's haireditarry? : )
The paper is a major suburban Chicago news outlet.
U of I is University of Illinois,
Only a remnant remains, the garden has been over run.
One of the facts I have always found fascinating ( and telling !) is how stupid these college Admin types show themselves to be when they open their mouths. Most of the time without engaging brain beforehand.
I hate it when those pukes try to overwhelm me with such emotions.
It appears to me that Van der Hooning is using the 'jarhead' issue as a pretext to recover his old position.
It also appears that no one quoted in this article understands the word 'jarhead'.
