Clinton Vows To Stay in Race To Convention
Washington Post ^ | March 30, 2008 | Perry Bacon Jr. and Anne E. Kornblut

Posted on 03/30/2008 1:50:14 PM PDT by george76

In her most definitive comments to date on the subject, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sought Saturday to put to rest any notion that she will drop out of the presidential race, pledging in an interview to not only compete in all the remaining primaries but also continue until there is a resolution of the disqualified results in Florida and Michigan.

A day after Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean urged the candidates to end the race by July 1, Clinton defied that call by declaring that she will take her campaign all the way to the Aug. 25-28 convention if necessary, potentially setting up the prolonged and divisive contest that party leaders are increasingly anxious to avoid.

"I know there are some people who want to shut this down and I think they are wrong," Clinton said in an interview during a campaign stop here Saturday. "I have no intention of stopping until we finish what we started and until we see what happens in the next 10 contests and until we resolve Florida and Michigan. And if we don't resolve it, we'll resolve it at the convention -- that's what credentials committees are for.

"We cannot go forward until Florida and Michigan are taken care of, otherwise the eventual nominee will not have the legitimacy that I think will haunt us," said the senator from New York. "I can imagine the ads the Republican Party and John McCain will run if we don't figure out how we can count the votes in Michigan and Florida."

Asked if there was a scenario in which she would drop out before the last primaries on June 3, Clinton said no. "I am committed to competing everywhere that there is an election,"

She is practically broke now. Wonder how her staff feels about working for no pay until the end of August.

Just announced - Hillary's new campaign song:

"And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going"

And I am telling you
I'm not going,
Even though the rough times are showing.
There's just no way,
There's no way.
We're part of the same place.
We're part of the same time.
We both share the same blood.
We both have the same mind.
And time and time we have so much to share,
No, no, no,
No, no, no,
I'm not wakin' up tomorrow mornin'
And findin' that there's nobody there.
Darling, there's no way,
No, no, no, no way I'm livin' without you.
I'm not livin' without you.
There's no way.

Tear down the mountains,
Yell, scream and shout.
You can say what you want,
I'm not walkin' out.
Stop all the rivers,
Push, strike, and kill.
I'm not gonna leave you,
There's no way I will.

And I am telling you
I'm not going.
It's the best gig I'll ever know.
There's no way I can ever, ever go,
No, no, no, no way,
No, no, no, no way I'm livin' without you.
Oh, I'm not livin' without you,
I'm not livin' without you.
I don't wanna be free.
I'm stayin',
I'm stayin',
And you, and you,
You're gonna love me.
Oh, hey, you're gonna love me,
Yes, ah, ooh, ooh, love me,
Ooh, ooh, ooh, love me,
Love me,
Love me,
Love me,
Love me.
You're gonna love me.

Fight it out all the way through the convention. If you lose in the convention, fight it out in the courts. Don’t let an uppity one term Senator cheat you out of your turn as President.

But it is time to stop pussy footing around. Pull out the big guns. Surely you’ve got some dirt on B.O. in those FBI files you took with you? If not, make some up. We know you can do it. Just think of B.O. as a bimbo eruption.

that's what credentials committees are for

That, in all its ramifications, is an explosive statement.

If Clinton is a complete deadender, she can push the convention's duration long past August 28.

She can fight the convention's ultimate decision in the courts.

Oh please Hillary, do it, do it!

It would be such ironic justice if the democRat nomination is tied up in the courts after the democRats tried to overturn the last two elections in the courts. The fact that the fight will likely be over counting votes in Florida and Michigan makes it all the more perfect.

Clinton is walking a very fine line.

If she triumphs in her bid to wrest the nomination from Obama, there will be purges and violent internecine fights within the party. If she takes the nomination and loses in November, the Clinton name will be mud in even Democrat circles for decades.

If she loses the nomination after a long and bitter fight in the courts and Obama loses, conventional wisdom will blame her and she will probably have destroyed any shot she had at a 2012 nomination.

If the convention picks Obama and she goes to the courts, she is doubling down and all in.

Loser goes home and hangs himself.

She wants 2012 if she can’t get it this time.
So hurting Obama as much as she can now so he will lose against McCain is in her interest.

She cant do much after Obama gets the nomination of course, that would expose her. But for now, she can hurt him by staying in, and the longshot she could get the nomination.

She has been running her whole life.

Whats another for years to someone like Hellary?

And if we don't resolve it, we'll resolve it at the convention -- that's what credentials committees are for.

Psst Ms. Clinton, look at the map and do the math which Donna Brazille made easy to follow this morning:

I think we have an exit strategy in the Democratic party to end the primary season on June 10th... that's the end of the primary season based on the rules, and after all this is about the rules.... So sometime before July 4th, I am clear that the superdelegates will break one way or another and this thing will end... Whoever is coming up with this new strategy is not looking at the map again. Howard Dean has already appointed 25 members [of the credentials committeee]. The states will send 3 persons, 3 people to the convention, on the credentials committee. Obama has won more states and therefore has more votes."

Bottom line, the Credentials Committee has 25 chosen by the National Committee, 81 members chosen by states won by Obama, and 36 members chosen by states won by Clinton. I'm sure Obama is saying Bring it on.

You have to understand that it’s a song from a Broadway show, so it’s it’s in the context of a story. You’ll have to take my word for it that the singing of this song was a pivotal moment in Broadway musical history. It brought down the house every night.

Here’s a song we’ll soon be hearing a lot—

Get Out of Denver
Bob Seger

I still remember it was autumn and the moon was shinin
My ‘60 Cadillac was rollin through Nebraska whinin
Doin a hundred twenty man the fields was bendin over
Hay down our motor mount and snowin, we was travelin further
All the pipes were blazin and the screamin wheels turnin, turnin
Had my girl beside me brother, brother she was burnin, burnin

A hooked up babtist preachin southern funky school teacher
She had a line on somethin heavy but we couldn’t reach her
We told her that we needed something that would get us going
She pulled out all she had and layed it on the counter showin
All I had to do was lay my money down and pick it up
Asked how much she needed, man, we lit out in a pickup truck & GO

Get outta Denver better go, go
Get outta Denver better go-ooooh
Get outta Denver better go, go
Get outta Denver cause you like just like a commie and you might just be a member, better
Get outta Denver, better, get outta Denver

Well, red lights are flashin and the sirens were a screamin
We had to pinch each other just to see if we was dreamin
Made it to Loveland Pass in under less than half an hour
Lord, it started drizzlin and it turned into a thunder shower

The rain kept drivin but the Caddy kept on burnin rubber
We kept on drivin til we ran into some fog cover
We couldn’t see a thing somehow we just kept on goin
We kept on drivin all night long and then into the mornin
Fog had finally lifted when we looked to see where we was at
We’re sailin in a column had a state policeman trooper’s hat

Get outta Denver better go, go
Get outta Denver better go-ooooh
Get outta Denver better go, go
Get outta Denver cause you like just like a commie and you might just be a member, better
Get outta Denver, better, get outta Denver

cause you like just like a commie and you might just be a member, better
Get outta Denver, better GO!

What most miss is the nature of people who strive for political leadership.

Plato called this a desire for thymos. That is, a striving not only for leadership but for personal meaning and excellence. It was a passionate commitment.

Nietzsche saw this as a "will to power" using much the same description. At least for these individuals, and perhaps most individuals, there is a desire for personal power, recognition and success. He pointed out they are not primarily driven by the desire for pleasure and avoidance of pain (Freud) but to put their stamp on the world. So he felt, at the base of our existence, we all were--seen as problematical by most modern philosophers.

Either Plato's or Nietzsche's interpretation are flat out different from normal, accepted Christian doctrine of the value of meekness, generosity and compassion.

Surely, even if you disagree with these takes, you can see Hillary has a strong "will to power" and is unlikely, except by extraordinary blandishments or fear, to recant and renounce her effort. This is especially true, when she can still see a definite, mathematical and psychological plausibility of prevailing.

Wait to see what she does when she fails. Remember Buchanan? Mccain? Expect similar externally directed animosity to those who thwarted her.

Hillary has made it clear that she’s staying in it until the end, therefore, there’s no need for Republicans in the remaning contests to continue to prop her up. Obama is very beatable in the general election. Let’s stop the she-beast before it’s too late.

Of course she’ll stay in. The Clintons are trickling out stories about everyone and anyone surrounding Barack H. Obama. And they need all the time they can gather to figure out how they are going to steal this nomination. Currently, they’re working overtime in Pennsylvania where the next round of theft will likely take place.
