Increasingly, it seems that the Republican Party would rather quit or simply embrace liberalism than fight for the conservatism in which they used to believe. It doesn't seem to matter how little they have left to lose. They'll find some reason or other to keep going along in the same leftward direction as the Democrats, just a tiny bit more slowly.
They would apparently rather be the Vichy Republicans, named for the puppet government of France that Nazi Germany appointed in the city of Vichy during its World War II occupation. Just as some Frenchmen sold out their country and brethren for the trappings of entirely phony power as if they could really do anything of which the Nazis disapproved so too are many Republicans more than willing to adopt and implement the policies of their erstwhile enemy just so they can pretend they have more influence than they really do. As if they could really pass anything of which the Democrats disapproved.

Comparing today’s Republicans to WWII Nazi’s. Nice.
Yep, true. That is the GOP of today. Too scared to beat them, so they joined them.
Actually, they’re being compared to the Vichy French. The libs are being compared to the Nazis.
>>Comparing todays Republicans to WWII Nazis. Nice.<<
Actually I think in this author’s metaphor, the Dems are the NAZIs and the Republicans are the NAZI collaborators.
Oops you beat me to it :)
That guy would make a good FReeper. he hasn’t a clue about what he’s writing.
It’s early, sorry. Need more coffee!
I think the point is that we do not have a true conservative Republican candidate and most Republicans plan to vote for this guy who is clearly NOT the best man for the job.
You get a Hillary or Obama as president and you’ll regret the day you didn’t vote for this lamer McCain. With a Democrat Congress it can get much much worse
Republicans never learn from success, Democrats never learn from failure.
This party is way too gone to support any longer. This year we clearly have two choices, Democrat, or Democrat lite. But actually, the Republican candidate would probably do more damage in the long run. Besides, the Democrats will over ride any veto’s or opposition McCain would try to muster.
So forget about holding any one’s feet to the fires of Conservative Principles. That will be totally out to the question. And the Dems will simply defund the war with out any Conservative opposition that can make a difference.
Oh? Is that why you're here?
LOL. Post of the day! And in such few words.
You should rethink that. Imagine the damage done to the Supreme Court should Obama or Shrillery get elected. And a Dem pres with a Dem congress spells disaster.
When does the stampede start?.. ALL this bleating is driving me nutz.. Does Stampedeing elephants with no spine sound like jello in a tupperware container?..
I don’t think he is comparing the Republican Party to NAZI’s, but if you read carefully you will see that his point is the Vinchey’s adopted the beliefs of their enimies in order to be in power.
Much like McCain and the Spineless RINO’s in the party and here on FR.
By the way, the NAZI’s were Socialists.

All of these young misguided voters who are fresh out of school and clearly brainwashed by the Liberal doctrine, will learn the hard way. Right now, they look up to the party that has promised them Utopian perfection, if only they put them in power.
That’s the point. If a RINO is in charge, like Mccain, the economy will go sour even quicker and the war, which those young voters have been taught is hateful and immoral and wrong, will be associated with and blamed on Republicans.
On the other hand, if the Democrats win, (And they probably will) the blame will be squarely placed on them for lying about what is real. The economy will crash and they will be begging for jobs and demanding the Democrats fix things. Of course the Democrats will make things even worse by attempting to redistribute the wealth. You can be assured that those young people will learn a hard lesson in reality and come to know that they have been lied to.
By then, we will have eliminated most of the RINO’s from this party and we can rebuild around a Conservative who will guide this country back on track, based on what made this party and country great in the first place.
The concept is quite logical and possible. We did in once before with Reagan.
>>McCain will run as the responsible<<
resonsible????
>> seasoned centrist who advocates a few liberal programs like combating global warming.<<
What about amnesty? You have no problem with tens of millions of new Dem (or worse) voters, who would control all 3 branches with an iron hand?
You get a Juan McCain as President, and what was formerly the United States of America will become nothing more than a comparatively upscale suburban community of Mexico proper; with a new 40 to 50 million additional assured Dem-for-life voters (NcCain's beloved Shamnesty constituency) added to the roles to make certain that no genuine conservative holds high office in this country ever again.
No, thanks.
That analogy was dead on. If it hurt your feelings I’d suggest a thicker skin.
Times are far different than in Reagan’s day. We cannot afford the unrecoverable damage of Leftist/Democrat stewardship to our Nation today. There is too much at stake not only for our Nation, but Worldwide for us to entirely lose sanity, thus control in our Government.

“Much as I don’t like McCain and his backstabbing I believe he is well positioned against Obama.”
If you already think he’s a backstabber, why on earth would you believe anything he says? This is what I dont get with you people. I wonder how many backstabbers you continue to allow in your personal life and keep on trusting.
“Imagine the damage done to the Supreme Court should Obama or Shrillery get elected”
Sorry, I’m too busy thinking of the damage mclame will do to please his fellow libs.
That says it all, right there.
Please stop with the “scary dramatics”. The USA will NOT come to an end w/ a socialist in the WH for 4 years, and that’s exactly what we get with any of the 3.
After this election there will be 3 parties, Democrats, Republicans, and Mexican.
Russia may be on the ascent again due to its oil riches and the restoration of Communist-like rule under Putin, but it is nowhere near the threat it was in the days of Brezhnev. China is not yet at superpower status, although it will be in the future. While there has been admitted wear and tear on our military due to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, it is in far better shape than it had been in the 1970s. Islamic terrorism has been restrained due to effective internal security and our overseas campaigns. As for the economy, the jury is still out as to whether the Fed's measures will work to ameliorate the subprime lending and derivative instruments problems that plague the financial sector.
Overall, our situation is not as critical as it was in 1980. However, a Hillary or Obama administration would likely make things worse. I have little confidence in a McCain administration either.
"After this election there will be 3 1 parties party, Democrats, Republicans, and Mexican.
I don't expect the USA to end at all, at least not on paper. It will go in the same manner as the ancient Roman Republic: all the documents, offices and titles remain, with nobody paying them any mind. Meanwhile, the real power is elsewhere.
For years now, the powers-that-be have been trying to concentrate powers in the Presidency that it was never meant to have. I don't see any of the three current contenders as fit to wield or even retain those powers. Kinda like three Gollums fighting over the Ring of Power, if you get my drift.

Tell us who represents Conservatism for four years DennisW. I’d really like to know. McCaain is already supporting leftist candidates at the state level to run for Governor. Here in California it’s an ex-CEO of eBay. She’s a person who is currently registered as an Independent and has only donated to full on leftists in the Democrat party.
Is this the future you desire for Conservatism, McCain at the helm passing leftist policy for the Democrats and replacing Conservatives at the state and federal level as fast as he can for four years?
McCain is setting up a coalition of leftist Republicans and leftist Democrats that will be invincable. Just who will be advancing Conservatism, or building Conservatism for the next four years?
As far as I can tell, Conservatism will have no voice whatsoever during the McCain years. It will essentially become a theory under McCain, no longer an actual movement.
Is that what we should be shooting for?
Disagree with you both. I look back at the Carter Admin. and see what that President did during his Administration, the subsequent actions of his embedded enablers since, and look at the results of where this Nation, and the World are today in making my statement. Obviously you don’t.
Call it “scary dramatics” if you will, but facts are facts. History is history. Another bout of Leftism since Clinton #1 could mean irrepairable damage to the America we know.
Actually I do and his name is mclame.
Actually he was comparing Republicans to the Vichy French. Correctly, I might add.
“McCain’s lurching leftward the last 6 years will pay off” ...... for the Communists. Yep you’re correct there will be a payoff, under the table.
What planet do you come from?
The Democrats took full control of the Legislature back in 2006. The Lame Duck Republican still sitting in the White House is doing pretty much that.
Sanity has been completely lost, especially for those who actually believe that McCain is a good choice, or level headed and sane.
But you just illustrated my point in the first place. The GOP has lost all sense of direction and is headed for disaster. Enjoy the ride you helped put on the road.
They remind me of the false mohammad prophet hussein’s followers. Although, mclame’s supporters “cry” instead of “fainting”.
The problem is that none of the realistic alternatives for President, McCain, Hillary, and Obama, will govern from even the moderate perspective of George W. Bush. Furthermore, it is probable the GOP will lose some ground in the Senate, if not the House in this election cycle. The greatest external danger will of course come from radical Islam through terrorism. If the Islamofascists follow up an American withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan with another 9-11 incident, and a President McCain, Hillary, or Obama respond tepidly, that administration will be doomed to face a conservative Congress in 2011 and a resounding defeat in 2012. Both the terrorists and the Democrats are familiar with the outcome of the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979 and the 9-11 terror strike of 2001.
The greater dangers we face are from the mishandling of an economic slowdown through the imposition of higher taxes and stricter regulation and from the prospect of socialized medicine. These events could well prolong a downturn as surely as the New Deal extended the Great Depression.
As far as I can tell, Conservatism will have no voice whatsoever during the McCain years. It will essentially become a theory under McCain, no longer an actual movement.
There just isn't enough support for real conservative candidates. This is a nationwide problem because the whole country moves a little bit more to the left each year. Ronald Reagan was the peak for conservation
Our Senators and Congressman are not stupid. The conservative ones are usually going leftward each year berceuse that's what gets you elected these days
There is a way out of it but I'm not sure what it is.
Just look at the fantasy land primary the Democrats have. All based on emotions and image. This is how foolish many Americans are getting. Life is too nice here so people have a lot of space to indulge their fantasies. Such as saddling the USA with trillions of dollars of expenditures to combat global warming while China and India have unrestricted CO2 emissions and already account for two thirds all man made CO2 emissions. That India and China information was just on the Glenn Beck show
McCain wants to stop global warming because he knows this nonsense gets him votes
