Pro-Homosexual Clubs

Historically, Catholic universities have been beacons of truth. They have set a standard of intellectual progress and moral excellence. They have elevated culture, formed the minds of great men, and paved the way for abundant scientific breakthroughs.
However, these beacons of truth are now failing. Moral values are being undermined on many Catholic campuses and the principles that once guided souls in the noble task of higher learning are being ignored. The secular model has invaded, allowing moral relativism to run wild. As a result, the sexual revolution is making its way into Catholic academia. The moral devastation is impossible to ignore. A response is long overdue.
Scope of the Crisis
College students frequently contact TFP Student Action aghast with the inroads of the homosexual movement on Catholic campuses.1 Every semester it seems to get worse. For example, Georgetown University, the nation’s oldest Catholic university, recently agreed to open and fully fund a new center for homosexual2 students in addition to the already existing pro-homosexual club on campus.3
To determine the scope of the crisis, TFP volunteers examined the official web sites of 211 Catholic universities and colleges listed by Granley’s Catholic Schools in America. Their research discovered that 45% have pro-homosexual clubs. Many of these clubs share in the movement’s radical goal – to force social acceptance of unnatural vice on Christian America, and gag expressions of free speech that oppose the movement’s ideological agenda.4

However, the number of pro-homosexual clubs on Catholic campuses may exceed 45% because not all clubs are listed on university web sites.
Gagging 2,000 years of Catholic Teaching
It is most heartrending when Catholic students feel inhibited to manifest their fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church on Catholic campuses. While freedom of speech and tolerance are common buzzwords used to spread unnatural vice, those who loyally adhere to the traditional Catholic moral teaching are often gagged, ridiculed and sometimes even persecuted. And there is virtually no free speech for those who reject homosexuality. The following examples illustrate the point.
Georgetown University, November, 2003: Members of TFP Student Action were kicked off Georgetown University’s free speech zone for handing out flyers quoting the Catechism of the Catholic Church on homosexual vice. The Interim Vice President of Student Affairs, Todd Olson, sent security guards to warn TFP members not to return: “If you return, you will be arrested,” the guards said.5
Duquesne University, October, 2005: Sophomore Ryan Miner was sanctioned by university officials for posting a comment on his own blog, opposing the creation of a “Gay-Straight Alliance” club on his Catholic campus. Miner was found guilty of violating the university’s anti-discrimination policy and was obliged to write a ten-page paper on “…the viewpoints for and against homosexuality using specific readings.” After refusing to do this, the university threatened to expel him.6
How many students are forced into silence out of fear of retaliation from administrators, professors or pro-homosexual activists?
Need to Restore Catholic Culture
The most profound reason for the homosexual movement’s victories lies not in its strength, but in the weakness of the good. This weakness is the result of a gradual blurring of the distinction between good and evil, a generalized loss of the sense of sin, declining standards of public morality, and, as seen above, the persecutory actions taken by college officials against those who do voice their loyalty to Church teaching.
An effective reaction must strive, therefore, to reverse this underlying moral problem. It must reinvigorate society’s moral foundations, which must be firmly based on the Ten Commandments and unchanging natural moral law. It must create the moral climate whereby homosexuality is rejected.

Urgent Appeal to Catholic Universities
It is our duty to defend the truth. To remain silent would amount to a lack of charity because, ultimately, sins against nature destroy the family, jeopardize the salvation of souls, and harm society, as historic precedents attest.
TFP Student Action hopes to collect thousands of signatures, urging the presidents of Catholic universities to defend true Catholic education and disband pro-homosexual clubs and activities on their campuses.
Everyone is invited to sign this urgent petition. College campuses are “ground zero” in the culture war and we must not allow the homosexual movement to take over because of our silent omission. Students, parents, and alumni must voice their objection.

After you sign the petition, check if your alma mater has a pro-homosexual club by visiting this complete list arranged in alphabetical order with all the contact information needed.
Consider voicing your faithful concern to the president of your respective university in writing or by phone. Be courteous yet firm. Let them know that you are upset by their lack of enforcement of the Church’s discipline and moral teaching and politely urge them to discontinue funding and approval for pro-homosexual clubs and activities.
In Ex Corde Ecclesiae, Pope John Paul II affirmed that “every Catholic university, without ceasing to be a university, has a relationship to the Church that is essential to its institutional identity.” He also stated that “the institutional fidelity of the university to the Christian message includes a recognition of and adherence to the teaching authority of the Church in matters of faith and morals.”7
Purity is the Answer
Our Lady of Fatima told Blessed Jacinta that “the sins which lead most souls to hell are sins of the flesh.” Therefore, to survive our hyper-sexualized culture, Catholic students must boldly affirm the truth. They must not only practice purity but be champions of purity, modesty and temperance – virtues that triumph over the disorderly passions of the sexual revolution.
To help Catholic students keep their faith, TFP Student Action is launching a new campaign – Purity is the Answer. Yes, purity is the answer, the antidote, and the remedy that few have the courage to proclaim.
As Catholics, we must be proud of purity. We must practice it, defend it and promote it. And if our courage falters in this crusade, we must ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to come to our aid. She will sustain us with her grace and expel temptations. She is the one who crushes the head of the Serpent (Gen. 3:15).

Years ago, Archbishop Fulton Sheen warned us, “If you want [your children] to lose their faith, send them to Catholic school.” It’s time to reverse this shameful situation.

Important Notice
In doing this campaign, we have no intention to defame or disparage anyone. We are not moved by personal hatred against any individual. In intellectually opposing individuals or organizations promoting the homosexual agenda, our only intent is the defense of marriage, the family and the precious remnants of Christian civilization in society.
As practicing Catholics, we are filled with compassion and pray for those who struggle against unrelenting and violent temptation to sin, be it toward homosexual sin or otherwise. In describing the physical, moral and spiritual consequences ensuing from sins of the flesh, we hope to counsel them away from sin, and provide them with insight to the necessity and beauty of the virtue of chastity that some may have never known.
We pray for those who fall into homosexual sin out of human weakness, that God may assist them with His grace. May they rise again, healed by a gaze from Our Divine Savior, to fall no more. In denouncing the ideology that pervades the homosexual movement, we hope to help them see how the movement may be exploiting them in its pursuit of ideological objectives with which they may not agree.
We are conscious of the enormous difference between these individuals who struggle with their weaknesses and strive to overcome them and others who transform their sin into a reason for pride, and try to impose their lifestyle on society as a whole, in flagrant opposition to traditional Christian morality and natural law.
However, we pray even for these. Yes, we pray for the radical activists pushing the homosexual agenda, even as we do everything permitted by law to block their efforts. We pray that, through the intercession of Mary Most Holy, the grace God gave Saint Paul on the road to Damascus be given them as well, so that they may come to see the errors they promote, sincerely reject them, convert to God and join us.
If, in the heat of the debate, what some might consider a sharp expression or caustic remark slipped by, it is not intentional. In this debate of national magnitude, dealing with a most grave and complex issue rife with delicate philosophical and theological nuances, one is not always successful in formulating ideas with the required needlepoint precision. This difficult task is further complicated by the time constraints imposed by galloping events.
In short, according to the famous expression attributed to Saint Augustine, we “hate the sin but love the sinner.”8 And to love the sinner, as the same Doctor of the Church explains, is to wish for him the best we can possibly desire for ourselves, namely, “that he may love God with a perfect affection.”9

1. The expression “homosexual movement” is used to designate a vast network of organizations, pressure groups, intellectuals and activists who strive to impose changes in laws, customs, morals and mentalities, so that homosexual acts are not only tolerated but also accepted as good and normal.
2. The indiscriminate use of the word homosexual and its synonyms has generated much confusion in the public. Many times, it is unclear if it refers to someone with same-sex attraction only or if it refers to someone who practices homosexual acts. This confusion favors the homosexual agenda. We cannot equate people with same-sex attraction who resist it and are chaste with those who engage in homosexual behavior. These are two distinct and essentially different moral realities. Thus, we will use homosexual to refer only to those who practice homosexual acts and thereby deserve moral reprobation.

St. Michael's College in Vermont: Catholic?sourceSt. Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont is well known in New England. Founded by the Edmundites in 1904, its mission statement reads:
It is the mission of Saint Michael’s College to contribute through higher education to the enhancement of the human person and to the advancement of human culture in the light of the Catholic faith.
In light of the Catholic faith. Hmmm. Last week Bishop Matano, Vermont's new Bishop fired a warning salvo over the bow of St. Michael's. In an interview with the Bishop concern is indicated about the president of St Mike's who, according to the Vatican, is supposed to be Catholic. The President is a gay Unitarian. Though I don't blame the strong pro gay atmosphere of St Mike's on the president, rather his selection is only further evidence of it. The Bishop is also concerned about events like proabortion rallies on the College campus.
The Edmundites' influence at St. Mike's is waning right along with their numbers. There are currently 41 priests worldwide left in the order. One former priest- Fr. Many was accused of child abuse, though no longer a Catholic priest he is "pastoring" for Dignity in Vermont. (But please repeat there is no connection between child molestation and homosexuality). Many claims that the accusations against him are a witchhunt. Regrettably I disagree.
In a student op-ed, some statistics are being given about how Catholic St Mike's is. The numbers are hard to refute:
57% of students call themselves Catholic
11% attend Mass weekly
15% believe they are more religious than when the entered St Mike's
26% say they are less Catholic
Amazing isn't it what Catholic parents are getting with their $35,000 tuition and room and board. Really I don't think you can put a dollar value on it.
I should point out, regarding my previous post, that St Michael’s now has a new president.
This IS the only way something will happen. Many of these colleges are run by religious orders, not by the Dioceses, so the Vatican doesn't have much control over them. As long as parents continue to send their kids there, the colleges won't feel the need to change.
