You are quite right. My seven-year-old currently goes to our local public school, a school where I do not teach.
My son has been singled out because when asked to draw a picture of a cowboy, he was the only one to draw one with a pistol.
His teacher now has the ability to do quite a few things *to* my family. That was made quite clear.
The state has the power, not the family.
WOW...sounds as if the 'assignment' had the desired effect...
You must be young or you would realize the difference between kids raised in the 50s and those raised in the contemporary world and the massive amount of negative influence the new media has on kids today. Parents spend as much, or more, time today with kids then they did in the 50s. It is sad to see that some will blame parents for issues which they have no control over. I see the teachers’ union constantly blaming parents for the failure of professional educators and much of the public buys this idiotic notion. Parents play an important role, don’t get me wrong, but the outside influences from media and gaming and teachers unions have a dominant impact once the child spends most of his waking hours outside the home.
You hit the nail on the head. LBJ’s “Great Society”. Things in this country have slowly (but now faster and faster) gotten worse!
It’s typical, a very small, south Georgia town, with a relatively equal mix of black and white (I remember, now, ??) Prayer never was taken out of anything. Tent revivals still take place. Chick tracts will be handed to you in the grocery store. It’s the old South religion we’re talkin’ about.
Granted, there are the swampers and the stils, but it’s still very much a cut out of the past. With the usual assortment of Baptists (Primative, Missionary, Southern) COC, Presbyterian, Holiness, Foot-washin’ Holiness, COG, COTN, you name it, there are lots of tiny tiny churches. Oh, and the usual BIG church in the middle of town :)
