We won't be here to see it, but I am very sanguine about the eventual outcome for those future generations versed in the history of Western Civ who wish to enjoy the benefits of liberty for themselves.

I don't share your optimism. The decline and demise of America will thrust the world into a new Dark Age, which will take centuries, if ever, to emerge from. There is no guarantee that the values and ideals that formed this society and Western Civilization will again hold sway over most of the world. Historically, it will only be a blip on the collective expericence of Man.

Evolutionary psychology - are we hardwired to superimpose cultural values over subsequent generations? I guess this is where we disagree - the US experience is not unique - it has happened before, and it will happen again.
