That's not the half of it. I worked for a Texaco jobber back in the 80's. Flying-J and Burns Brothers (and other large "truck stops" now known as "travel centers") buy non-branded fuel at whoever is cheapest at the time.
IOW, Flying-J pulled loads out of Tosco, ARCO, Texaco, Chevron - whoever.
At the same time the Texaco Portland loading terminal would regularly run out of unleaded or diesel and would get a "push" down the pipeline from ARCO or Tosco or Shell or wherever. Sometimes it'd come from a barge with no brand name at all.
General public are dupes and enjoy being stupid, IMO.
You mean ARCO, I believe, not Amoco. Though it may be valid for Amoco as well.
