More Global Warming Nonsense
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 10, 2008 | PAUL REITER and ROGER BATE

Posted on 04/10/2008 7:36:31 AM PDT by Delacon

Today, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing on the implications of climate change for human health. Malaria will top the menu, but so will ignorance and disinformation.

The lead witness will be Dr. Jonathan Patz of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has suggested that U.S. energy policy may be "indirectly exporting diseases to other parts of the world." Dr. Patz, the World Health Organization (WHO) and others claim that global warming is now spreading disease and may be the cause of some 160,000 deaths a year.

In 2007, for example, WHO pointed to rising temperatures in an outbreak of a mosquito-borne virus, Chikungunya, in Italy. Yet WHO misdiagnosed the problem. Modern transportation, not climate change, caused the outbreak.

In that case, the transmitter of the disease, or vector, was the Asian Tiger mosquito. It is native to Asia, but exported world-wide in shipments of used tires. It is now abundant in parts of U.S. and in 12 countries in Europe. In cities, it breeds in man-made containers of water, such as saucers under flower-pots, water barrels, blocked gutters and so on. The virus was carried to Italy by an infected Indian who flew from Delhi, where an epidemic of the disease was then raging.

So the real technological villain in that case was the jet airplane. It was irresponsible, then, for WHO to state "although it is not possible to say whether the outbreak was caused by climate change . . . conditions in Italy are now suitable for the Tiger mosquito." And it was absurd for environmental alarmists to chime in with apocalyptic pronouncements.

Alarmists are therefore often unopposed in offering simplicity in place of complexity, ideology in place of scientific dialogue, and emotion in place of dry perspective. The alarmists will likely steal the show on Capitol Hill today. But anyone truly worried about malaria in impoverished countries would do well to focus on improving human living conditions, not the weather."

These warmists propagandists have absolutely no shame. Malaria is not a climate dependent disease and they damn well know it. Northern Europe and North America as far north as the Arctic Circle had regular malaria outbreaks throughout history until the early 20th century. Good public health measures lessend the incidents on Malaria in the developed world, not global temperature changes.

Here is an excellent paper writter by Doctor Ritter when he was still with the US CDC.

Got it in one! The Southeastern US has ALWAYS been "climatically favorable" for both the malaria and yellow-fever mosquitoes, and yet yellow fever is essentially unknown due to mosquito-control measures. The problem arises when the religiously "naturalist" eco-nutcases go to court and sue to stop the "evil" spraying of pesticides to kill the disease carriers.

I am personally of the opinion that anyone who files such a suit should be deliberately and with malice aforethought infected with yellow fever so they can experience first-hand what the results of their misguided idealism will be.

WAIT! Let me guess who is the Chairman of this communisttee. Hey, it's Mr. Waitress Sandwich hisself - King Cod of the Cape, the Chappaquidick Harbor Pilot and Master Bridge Jumper, Tub-O-Teddy!

Isn't it paradoxical that this murdering fat slob who's never done a real day's work in his life would chair a committee concerned with Health and Labor. Doesn't this committee take time away from his position as Chairman of the Committee for Single Malt Oversight?

Skeeter/malaria problem???

Spray the inside walls of the houses in infected regions.

Skeeter bites malaria person, rests on the nearest vertical wall....dies...doesn’t pass on the disease.

End of problem.

Global warming problem?

Wat a few years.

End of problem.

I got my first Asian Tiger mosquito bite at an orphanage in Nizhniy Tagil, Russia in 2006 - an itchy red inflammation spread across part of the back of my hand and up my middle finger around the bite.

But once that subsided, the myriad additional bites over the course of the month were no more bothersome than the usual American mosquito bite, as my immune system learned to cope.

"...anyone truly worried about malaria in impoverished countries would do well to focus on improving human living conditions, not the weather."

Bingo. As I posted just yesterday, thinking that we can micromanage the planet's incredibly dynamic climate to within 0.2 degrees F is foolish arrogance. We just can't do it - period, end of conversation. And even if we could, it would not protect us against the thousands of other dangers coming from space, from our atmosphere, from underground, or from other life forms - as a matter of fact, by focusing so many resources in such a narrow area, it could make us more vulnerable to these other dangers.

Instead of wasting overwhelming levels of resources, time, effort, attention and talent on such futility, we should focus on what we can do, namely to further harden our society against the broad range of dangers in this world.

I recently read about an air born virus more deadly than AIDS that comes from unearthing rain forest land that has been swamped for millions of years. Good news is that people carrying the deadly virus don’t last long enough to get back to society to bring it into populated areas...they die in 24 hours or so.

SAfrican cold snap spells tragedy for Europe-bound swallows

http://www.terradaily.com/2007/080409175834.tjhx6u8n.html

Tens of thousands of starving swallows simply dropped dead out of the sky in South Africa’s Limpopo province after a cold snap stopped them feeding, an expert said Wednesday.
The birds fell victim to plunging temperatures towards the end of March and were unable to feed properly as they prepared for their annual migration to Europe, Gerhard Verdoorn from BirdLife South Africa told the SAPA news agency.

“The tens of thousands of birds were falling down everywhere and just dying,” Verdoorn said, adding that farmers in Limpopo had at first feared the birds were being poisoned.

The dead swallows were only a small proportion of the mass migration which began on March 28, said the expert.

Verdoorn suggested that humans could try and prevent what was becoming an annual tragedy by addressing the root causes of climate change.

Verified, Global Warming causes cooling.
