Obama declines to criticize Carter on Hamas Fri Apr 11, 2008 1:08pm EDT

By Caren Bohan

INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Friday it was not his place to criticize former President Jimmy Carter for agreeing to meet with Hamas, although Obama said he would not meet with the militant Palestinian group.

The former U.S. president's plans to meet with the leader of Hamas during a nine-day trip the Middle East beginning Sunday have drawn criticism from both the Bush administration and close U.S. ally Israel.

"I'm not going to comment on former President Carter. He's a private citizen. It's not my place to discuss who he shouldn't meet with," Obama told reporters while campaigning in Indianapolis. "I know that I've said consistently that I would not meet with Hamas."

Carter has not publicly backed either candidate in the Democratic race but hinted recently that he supports Obama.

Carter's planned trip creates awkwardness for the Illinois senator, whose critics have sought to raise doubts about whether he might be inclined as president to put greater pressure on Israel to make concessions in peace talks with the Palestinians.

Such doubts could cost Obama support with some U.S. Jewish voters.

In other words, Obama doesn't have a problem with Jimmy Carter's nutty views... and neither do certain Israeli politicians. Carter is a nut. The last thing one needs to do is listen to his ravings on Israel and America.

If Carter come out against abortion, then Obama would object.

Obama apparently likes people who like Hamas. His church’s news letter even printed a article from a senior member of that organization.....

"I know that I've said consistently that I would not meet with Hamas."

At least, until he's President, God forbid. He supposedly won't meet with one terrorist, but he'll have tea & crumpets with ImaNutJob?

I will never ever understand socialist-liberals; their lack of logic escapes me utterly.

“I’m not going to comment on former President Carter. He’s a private citizen.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
So it’s now official. When Obama is President, Bush, Cheney and others can undermine Obama’s policy by visiting whoever they wish at whatever time they wish even over the Obama administration’s objections and even if it undermines Official policy. It really sad that Carter is being allowed to elevate the status of terrorists and to give aid and comfort to the enemy. What next? Maybe we’ll start allowing our generals who disagree with administration policy to become advisors to our enemies. What’s the difference?

“U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Friday it was not his place to criticize former President Jimmy Carter...”

Of course it IS his place to criticize sitting President Bush in a time of war.

If Jimmy Carter is a PRIVATE citizen, strip him of his security detail, his pay, his title.

Obama does NOT understand that the role of a president continues beyond his years in office.

Surprised no, outraged yes. Is it now okay to give aid and comfort to the enemy? Does this mean that Bush and Cheney can undermine President Obama’s policies by meeting with perhaps China in support of their Tibet policy or maybe Darfur to back the government there against President Obama’s stated wishes as he tries to address the mess there?
When will this stop?

Of course he can’t criticize Hamas. His pastor has published their diatribes in their “church” bulletin.

Maybe we’ll start allowing our generals who disagree with administration policy to become advisers to our enemies.

Lt. Gen. William Odom, former NSA head, is already half way there.
