Blogger Is Surprised by Uproar Over Obama Story, but Not Bitter
The New York Times ^ | April 14, 2008 | Katharine Q. Seelye

Posted on 04/14/2008 9:58:39 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The backstory of how Senator Barack Obama’s comments about small-town voters became news is getting almost as much attention in the blogosphere as the comments themselves.

Mayhill Fowler, a blogger for OffTheBus.net, a Web site published by Huffington Post and created by Arianna Huffington and Jay Rosen, was the first to report Mr. Obama’s comments — that small-town voters bitter over their economic circumstances, “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them” as a way to explain their frustrations.

The comments created an instant sensation in the media and Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton seized on them, hoping they would slow Mr. Obama’s momentum in the polls against her in Pennsylvania, which votes in 8 days. If Pennsylvania rejects Mr. Obama by a big margin, and voters in Indiana and North Carolina follow suit, the comment could be seen as the game-changer.

Ms. Fowler told me in an interview Sunday night that she was initially reluctant to write about what Mr. Obama had said because she actually supports him -- which partly explains why she was at the fund-raiser in the first place and why there was a four-day delay between the event and the publication of her post. Ultimately, she said, she decided that if she didn’t write about it, she wouldn’t be worth her salt as a journalist.

Some Obama supporters in the blogosphere were up in arms at Ms. Fowler. They doubt that she really supports Mr. Obama, have called her a plant for Mrs. Clinton and suggested she was deceptive in getting into the fund-raiser.

The whole episode gives a revealing glimpse into yet even more ways in which the Internet is changing the coverage of politics. And Ms. Fowler says she is surprised that she is playing a role in this revolution.

Quite ironic, isn't it?

Amazing, Ariana gives many the excuse not to vote for Obama they were looking for.

I know it seems like the first big blow(after Reverend Wright) was by an Obama supporter herself, which shows you how asleep at the wheel the MSM is. It seems like they are all for newsstories uncovering the fradulent unless it is master candidate BHO.

these types are quick to remind us typical white folks about how certain “code words” or “code phrases” can offend the sensibilities of blacks.
for ex. “boy” or “colored” (which often makes me wonder why the NAACP hasn’t changed their name a long time ago)
“clean”, “articulate”, “he/she speaks well”

But when it comes to their own prejudice and tendency to stereotyping, they cannot fathom why redneck whites would take offense to the plain and obvious condesencsion.

It is particularly insulting when an elitist is soliciting votes from the same people who he clearly looks down upon.

Do we white devils need to compile our own list of code words and code phrases that will set us off?
Just to be helpful and help educate our hoity toity liberal friends?

We are in the majority, so that, ipso facto, we cannot be discriminated against.

The important quotes were buried deep in the narrative, almost as if they were couched to soften the blow. She also said she thought posting on Friday would mean fewer people would see it.

Typical "journalist" tricks. She's a real reporter all right.

but we can clearly be offended!
And isn’t that the new thing - to become professional perpetually offended whiners?

And because there are more of us, liberals need us- no matter how much they despise us.

If they want to win elections, they are going to have to figure out how to quit offending the crackers.

Democrats are going to want a Loyalty Oath before the coven will feel they are "safely among fellow travellers"...

Because a real Obama supporter would hide the truth, rather than reporting the truth, about what Obama says and believes?

That seems to be the essence of their "disgruntledness" (if I can invent a word - substitute "disgruntlement" if you frown on such invention). Their obvious discomfort at the truth coming out is damning...

Ms. Fowler seems like a principled person. She deserves credit for upholding her journalistic obligations to the public.

The greatest obstacle to Obama getting elected is the truth.

The truth of the American people seeing Obama for who he really is:

A rabid anti-white anti-american communist like his father, and his mentor Wright. (and wright’s mentor Crone)

Scroll down and read the comments to Mrs. Fowler by the Hufftards: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mayhill-fowler/obama-no-surprise-that-ha_b_96188.html

Many seem to think that she should NOT have revealed Senator Obama’s “bitter” remarks at the San Francisco fundraiser, not because they are faked or incorrect, but because it hurts their messiah! They’re accusing this little old lady of being a “Hillary plant” (quite a plant, she’s given BHO the full $2,300) and worse. They’re all about gaining and keeping power and changing AmeriKKKa to their liking, not what’s good for the country!

Yes, but I give her credit for reporting it; she's done far more with just this story than anyone in the fawning liberal media.

With a 100,000 hits in 24 hours, it wasn't buried quite that deep.

I also admire Fowler for being disturbed by Obama's elitism; she obviously hasn't succumbed to the typical Obama supporter's brain atrophy.

Towards he end of the story..there's this little gem...

At the same event, in his speech, Obama also revealed that he HAD VISITED PAKISTAN while in college..

Has anyone seen or heard anything about this? Me, I went to Ft. Lauderdale for spring break...

I like this part: “...suggested she was deceptive in getting into the fund-raiser.”

I guess the honest, “non-deceptive” thing to do would have been to keep Obama’s comments hidden from the public.
