Respect plants, say ethicists

PLANTS deserve respect, a group of Swiss experts says, arguing that killing them arbitrarily is morally wrong - except when it comes to saving humans or maybe picking petals off a daisy.

In a report on "the dignity of the creature in the plant world", the federal Ethics Committee on non-human Gene Technology condemned the decapitation of flowers without reason, among other sins.

Still, commission member Bernard Baertsche suggested the body weighed such cruel acts on a case by case basis, noting "the simple pleasure of picking the petals off a daisy might suffice as a reason".

Similarly "all action that involves plants in the aim to conserve the human species is morally justified,'' the commission, tasked to offer an ethical take on all areas of biotechnology and genetic engineering, said in its report.

That's exactly what I was going to say.

These “ethicists” are some of the most unethical monsters on the face of the earth.

The awful scene in one version of “Frankenstein” is thus parodized.

Not just one little girl shredded like the picking of a daisy, but tens of millions annually.

Ah, vegans thought they had the higher moral ground... It won’t be long that that exhalted place will be claimed by dirt and mineral eaters.

I guess if Bass fishing says “CATCH AND RELEASE”

Could we then conclude that “ PLUCK AND GRAFT “IS OK

The next step would be the “SHOOT AND STICTH”

"he simple pleasure of picking the petals off a daisy might suffice as a reason"

An ethical dilemma arises for campers when a strong and broad leaf is needed for personal hygiene. On the one hand using the leaf is utilitarian and not capricious. On the other hand.. Oh, he indignity!

As I said before, to be an liberal/progressive/environmentalist requires the IQ of a juvenile Kumquat and the useless zealotry of a hound baying at the moon.

No one has even mentioned air and water. How dare we breath and drink capriciously?
Sweetbay supermarket reminds us that shopping carts have feelings. How much more do air and water have sensitivities that are trammeled every moment of their lives.
Al Gore to the rescue. Teach us how to stop breathing and drinking, Al. We want to be sensitive to Gaea.

This is similar argument offered by (some) vegetarians why we shouldn’t eat animals. On philosophical ground, I don’t really see any difference.
