The demolition derby that now defines the Democratic presidential primary race looks headed for another smashup tonight when Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama meet for a debate in delegate-rich Pennsylvania, site of the nation's next big primary on Tuesday.
With the Democratic presidential hopefuls locked in open warfare as the last primaries wind down and the battle for delegates heats up, the questions now are: How much intra-party bashing will voters tolerate, and how much will the Republicans benefit?
Although past one-on-one debates between the New York and Illinois senators have been virtual lovefests, the terrain is different this time because Clinton is running out of room. Many political observers believe she must put the pedal down hard tonight if she hopes to convince all-important superdelegates that she alone has the muscle to take the Democratic fight on to the general election.
"It has been an enjoyable primary season," laughed Sacramento-based GOP strategist Rob Stutzman on Tuesday on the recent developments that have had Obama and Clinton pouring on the vitriol in the last week. Between the brouhaha over the "bitter" comments from Obama in San Francisco and the beer-and-gun-loving displays by Clinton as they have courted Pennsylvania voters, Stutzman notes, the Democratic presidential contest is "becoming the political equivalent of Vietnam. At some point, one of them catches a helicopter off the roof, but it's not clear who it will be - and how it will happen."
With just six days until voters go to the polls in Pennsylvania, Stutzman's obvious delight in tonight's debate (starting at 5 p.m. PDT on ABC) is a measure of just how much the presidential race has shifted - and just how impossibly tangled it looks for the Democrats right now.

Even his most ardent admirers in the MSM such as Chwissy Mathews of the tingling leg, admit that Obama’a debating skills are much less than his highly overrated speaking skills. We know Hillary can hold her whiskey and out shoot Barry, but when it gets down and dirty, can Barry hold up?
I would take that with a large measure of salt. In the heat of battle, things are said that might not pan out.

You're probably right. But if he gets half of that in the right state or two, that could be enough to put him over the top. That's assuming he doesn't screw up his VP choice and the repubs don't stay home on election day.

I guess I need to work on my math; he purportedly would get 20-25% of the loser's share of the dem vote, which would be 10-12% of the dem vote altogether.

Why does anyone expect anything from these psudeo-debates? There will be no fireworks. As it was in every other debate, the two Socialists will try to “out Social” each other in a polite and civil way.
Bland and boring, just like both of them. They are not going to say anything to jeopardize the mediocrity of their campaigns.
Barack Obama: The Troy McClure of politics. He doesn't have any ideas of his own but, if put him in front of a TelePrompter, his reading of other people's writing, no matter how meaningless, will bring a lump to your throat and a tear to your eye.
I got stuck out of town a couple of days ago, had to get a room, and watch TV for the first time in years. It was non stop Obama and Clinton, with enough McCain thrown in to polish off the nausea. Most of it was on Obama’s ignorant, Pennsylvania remark, and the talking heads were framing it as class warfare. Not one of the them realized Obama was demeaning American culture, not class.
Just another dog fight to see who can be a bigger socialist!
