Hear the Six Best Minutes of Tim Robbins' Controversial NAB Speech

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Even as he came on stage to give the keynote address at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas, it was obvious that Tim Robbins' remarks had caused controversy backstage. The Academy Award-winning actor and critically acclaimed screenwriter, director and producer first indicated to the audience that he would not be giving his speech. Then, floor agents of the NAB organizers ordered journalists' video cameras turned off. An NAB spokesman later said Mr. Robbins contract had a "no filming" clause. Ultimately, Mr. Robbins changed his mind and started talking. Listen to the six best minutes of the speech.

This was quite weird, I thought. It was like he was channeling Obama ... he said the magic word.

Not gonna listen, but lemme guess:

An actor on the Vegas strip tells us what our country should do.

If there is a chill wind then why is this prissy doofus still “allowed” to rant?

This man is bonkers and was on Whoopi Goldberg’s talk show in the 1990s in the Bush I era ranting about how Bush’s arm “lingered too long” in the arm like he was giving a Nazi salute and Mr. Susan Sarandon was dead serious. Even Whoopi thought he was just drawing an analogy and then shifted the subject when she realized he believed that crap.

No, just what the broadcast industry should do, change ... you know, for the better.

Never did like him as an actor, how did he make it anyway? He’s ugly and stupid!

I was at NAB last year, but I was left out of the rotation at work to go this year. Luckily I picked a good year not to have my employer pay for the pleasure of me going down there...

Heh. I had no idea Robbins was so upset about the treatment Britney Spears has received recently.
He really let them have it, but good.

He's an excellent actor. 'Shawshank Redemption' is simply great, and 'Arlington Road' is another classic. Sure, Robbins is a goofball, but he's made some good movies.

Arlington Road is a must for Conservatives. It really lets you see into the mind of liberals and how they view conservatives. It blew my mind.

National Association of Broadcasters has Robbins delivering the keynote address. What more do we need to know about the broadcasters applauding him? He lives hate and cynicism and projects it on conservative Americans. Fool.

Your opinion. I thought it a piece of garbage. The POOR guy, the system does him wrong, just another guy convicted of doing a crime that did not do it, gets even with evil prison warden in end, is the good guy, excapes from jail, lives in paradise in Mexico, living his dream on his boat. It was BS. He is puke. Period. Right, my opinion.

No. Arlington Road has Tim Robbins play a “right wing extremist” you know a “Timothy McVeigh” type.

It was shot in Texas as DC.

He says that our nation is at a low point in our history and that we’ve been “betrayed” and yet he dares say that the media can do more than air cynicism?

HE’S the cynical one.

“We don’t need to celebrate our ‘pornographic’ obsession with celebrity culture.” then get off the stage, you are only there BECAUSE you are a celebrtity, not a political spokesman or a businessman.

He says that we defeated Hitler and fascism and communism. But he overlooks that the Democrat party of today is run by the Communist protesters of the 1960s. To point that out is “divisive”.

CHANGE must come from within.

And why couldn’t he tell the media to get their heads out of the mud in 2003 rather than in 2008 when a different party may be coming to power as president?

It established much of the visual language of all the films that followed. But some Stephen King fairy tale about convicted murderers is somehow among the best films ever.
