Democrats Block Resolution to Commend Pope
Town Hall ^ | April 17, 2008 | Amanda Carpenter

Posted on 04/17/2008 6:44:21 AM PDT by yoe

A reliable GOP aide informs Townhall that Senate Democrats are blocking a measure to commend Pope Benedict XVI because of “controversial” religious language used in the text of the resolution.a,pa.

The Pope arrived in Washington Wednesday for a six-day visit to the United States. He delivered an address on the White House South Lawn that morning to praise the America for preserving religious freedom at home and abroad.

The Senate has so far refrained from passing a similar resolution because at least one Senate Democrat is objecting to the following statements contained in the Senate’s resolution to welcome the Pope:

"Whereas Pope Benedict XVI has spoken approvingly of the vibrance of religious faith in the United States, a faith nourished by a constitutional commitment to religious liberty that neither attempts to strip our public spaces of religious expression nor denies the ultimate source of our rights and liberties"

"Whereas Pope Benedict XVI has spoken out for the weak and vulnerable, witnessing to the value of each and every human life;"

The Senate resolution has bipartisan sponsorship. Republican Sen. Sam Brownback (R.-Kans.) introduced the resolution on April 15. It is cosponsored by Democratic Sen. Bob Casey (Pa.). Both senators are Catholic.

The was offered for passage by unanimous consent, meaning the Senate could pass it without a vote, through a procedure called “hotlining.” The resolution could not be “hotlined,” however, because of Democratic objections to the statements listed above.

Until Democrats lift their objections, or the resolution is modified, it remains in limbo.

The aide tells Townhall, “I guess the Democrats look down on those who ‘cling’ to religious liberty and value life. Makes me bitter.”

Democratic presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama (D.-Ill.) has faced fierce criticism over the past week because he suggested to supporters at a private fundraiser in San Francisco “bitter” Americans “cling” to wedge voting issues like gun rights, faith and border security when faced with economic hardship.

I'm going to guess that this is seen as an anti-abortion statement, and as such is unacceptable to some people.

I have read the Book. God’s side wins. So the Democrats not only pick the losing side again. They are doing it in the open. Too bad the media is not talking about them blocking this, I bet if Yassir Arafat were still alive they would have no problem giving him kudos if he were on a state visit here.

Any chance the blogsphere can raise enough of a stink about this that the Dems start to take some heat? If we make them look like the religious bigots they are, perhaps some Dem Catholics will move over to Republican? Or perhaps keep some of their Dem donations at home?

Any Freepers connected enough with Rush or Hannity that we can get some national media attention on this?

So let the people of this country say “”Whereas Pope Benedict XVI has spoken approvingly of the vibrance of ......................................................................... the ultimate source of our rights and liberties, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES SAYS.”

In a funny way, this kind of thing from these members of Congress is a good thing. It highlights their hatred for truth. They’d sign on for any kind of endorsement or commendation of the leader of any of the many false religions out there, but they hate the truth.

All voting in Congress is a matter of public record. However, not all floor votes are roll call votes. There are voice votes (“aye” or “no”) and division or standing votes (where the presiding officer counts Members), and these types of votes do not indicate by name how a Member voted.

Nancy Pelosi, an advocate for abortion, met briefly with the pope - it is her job to stop congress from any meaningful progress to embarrass President Bush. I would love to know the names also.

We already know that 100% of the Senate Democrats are Godless, soulless apparatchiks sponsored by special interests who wish to turn America into a radioactive desert wasteland.

This additional proof wasn't needed, but it's good to see these devils overplay their hands once more in an election year.

Beyond that, it’s probably Senator Webb. He, himself, has a special affection for pedophilia (see his books) and most likely has taken personal offense at the Pope’s statements condemning sexual assaults on children.

"Senate Democrats are blocking a measure to commend Pope Benedict XVI because of “controversial” religious language used in the text of the resolution ...: "Whereas Pope Benedict XVI has spoken approvingly of the vibrance of religious faith in the United States, a faith nourished by a constitutional commitment to religious liberty that neither attempts to strip our public spaces of religious expression nor denies the ultimate source of our rights and liberties" // "Whereas Pope Benedict XVI has spoken out for the weak and vulnerable, witnessing to the value of each and every human life; ..."

Of course there isn't a true 'RAT party member alive who would agree with any pope's affirmation of what the Framers stood for and wrote into our Constitution:

Pope John XXIII, On Establishing Universal Peace In Truth, Justice, Charity, And Liberty, April 11, 1963 Excerpts:

"Man's personal dignity requires besides that he enjoy freedom and be able to make up his own mind when he acts.

In his association with his fellows, therefore, there is every reason why his recognition of rights, observance of duties, and many-sided collaboration with other men, should be primarily a matter of his own personal decision.

Each man should act on his own initiative, conviction, and sense of responsibility, not under the constant pressure of external coercion or enticement.

There is nothing human about a society that is welded together by force.

Far from encouraging, as it should, the attainment of man's progress and perfection, it is merely an obstacle to his freedom."

"Hence, a regime which governs solely or mainly by means of threats and intimidation or promises of reward, provides men with no effective incentive to work for the common good.

And even if it did, it would certainly be offensive to the dignity of free and rational human beings."

"Consequently, laws and decrees passed in contravention of the moral order, and hence of the divine will, can have no binding force in conscience, since 'it is right to obey God rather than men.' " ~

"[Some are involved in] a disastrous confusion between the poor of the Scripture and the proletariat of Marx." ~ Pope Benedict XVI Theologies of Liberation

*

Pope Benedict XVI, notes that proper stewardship of our environment is one of the individual Christian's responsibilities toward God - - - BUT only in this order:

"..an authentic...theology: [is] one that puts:

[1] God and the life of the spirit first,
[2] DIRECT charitable care of others second,
[3] and only then draws consequences for a just social order."

*

C.S. Lewis: "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under live robber barons than under omnipotent moral busibodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good, will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

As you ccan see, C.S. Lewis had the number of elitist do-gooder mentalities and the cynical opportunists that use them. bttt

The democrats would veto “The Second Coming” if it was announced by Archangel Gabriel.

Not only can’t they do that, most won’t be going anyway. I know that is judgmental but I’m feeling that way.
