"all joking asside, hobbits existed? or is just some dumbass article?"

I don't post 'dumbass' articles.

“asside”?

I ass-ume this was on purpose.

Another thought - perhaps this species “evolved” to have “spontaneous self root canals” - I mean, it would make them “more fit” for survival.

By the way, how many knew that the subtitle of “Origin of Species” is “The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life”?

I just never miss any pretext...
The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve
Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

“Then I notice in the last paragraph it says an x-ray has not been taken...well why not?”

Follow the research $$$, A simple tooth x-ray is a heck of lot cheaper than an CT scan...someone needs to justify buying a CT scan perhaps and then shook hands with the researcher.
