Poll Shows New York Turning "Purple"

New York State's traditional status as a blue democratic leaning state is changing to a color closer to purple in a new poll released by Siena College, which shows Republican John McCain gaining ground over his Democratic challengers.

In a sign that the long, and increasingly negative campaign between Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is hurting their standing among New York democrats, the Siena poll finds that neither could win over 50% of voters against Republican John McCain. Siena's Steve Greenberg says if the election were held today, 46% would vote for Clinton to 42% for McCain, and 45% would prefer Obama over 40% for McCain.

"Right now it looks like New York could be in play this Presidential election," Greenberg said. "Which is bad news for Democrats."

A RAT effort to lure precious campaign dollars to WXXI and other media outlets. NY is a lost cause. P*** on them.

Actually we’re turning purple because the tax burden is crushing us all here.....taking the wind out of the lungs so to speak.

NYC and Long Island are lost causes......upstate where I live is different. Of course, that doesn’t really matter because of sheer numbers.

I didn’t vote for Hillary........just about everyone I know didn’t either.

At the end of the day, the NY Dems will fall into line, just like all the Republicans that don’t like McCain will come home to roost eventually. This election will play out just like the last two, right down to the wire. I think McCain will win, but those who say “if New York’s in play, it’ll be a GOP blowout,” are engaging in wishful thinking.

“Poll Shows New York Turning “Purple”

New York hasn’t changed, the GOP has.

“just like all the Republicans that don’t like McCain will come home to roost eventually.”

I’d be careful using generalities like “all Republicans” when referring to those with enough of a lack of principle to vote for that clown.

The vast majority of your fellow citizens do, so good luck to you. Move away if you can. As usual, the big cities drag everybody else down. Why do you think Michagan sucks so much?

silly talk like that is what is supporting the delusional RINOS runing the RNC.

McCain is not getting donations.
no money
McCain is not getting volunteers.
no foot soldiers.

THAT is what wins elections. McCain is a political poop that offers nothing to us.

If the Democrats can't win New York, they certainly won't pick Pennsylvania next door. New York hasn't voted for a GOP candidate since 1984.

That’s just another signal to McCain that the Federal Amnesty Bill needs to be the first piece of legislation he signs in office.

I think it is very possible that McCain will only have to protect Ohio of the major Bush 04 states, while Obama will have to protect PA, MICH, Wisconsin and maybe even have to spend $$$ in NY, NJ and Calif.

Florida and Missouri will be in the bag unless Obama can pull a huge vote total out of St. Louis. Virginia could be interesting but I still see McCain playing well there in the long run.

The wildcard in Cali to me is the hispanic vote. I can see them getting turned off to Obama.

I don’t know if McCain could win NY, but rather than it drawing him into spending, it could force Obama to spend a lot to protect it.

If I were McCain I would focus a massive round of attention on Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Ohio. If he can also do enough to produce some scary internal polls for Obama in Cali and NY they might overreact.

Going to be an interesting tactical campaign. If Obama can’t flip Ohio...and I don’t think he will...what state is he going to take away to win?

I went to upstate (up near Niagra falls) once and it was depressing. There was high taxes, few jobs, plenty of leftist welfare rats, and crumbling infastructure despite the tax burden. It might just have been the area I was in but good god. Cape Cod almost looks like paradise in comparison.

Niagara Falls (at least the American side) is definitely pretty run-down and sketchy... and most of the rest of upstate is farmland and mountainy areas with a few small to medium-sized cities in it, it’s not substantially different form any other rural-ish area in any other state I’ve been in. I really like Buffalo, though, and it’s supposed to be one of the cleanest cities in the country. NYC strikes me as the kind of place you’d only want to live in if you were young, energetic, and only living there temproarily, like for an internship or college or something.

Oh, and does anyone think Spitzer’s recent indiscretions, coupled with the new governor telling the press everything bad he’s ever done, have anything to do with the democrats’ recent unpopularity in the state? I was in NYC for spring break the week all the drama with Spitzer went down, and with the comments I heard on the subway and such he seemed to be even more hated than President Bush by the average NY’er!

While NY is full of McCain style RINOs, there aren't nearly enough of them to make any difference. The RAt will win. And if it's the vibrant, exciting female called Hillary, she'll win really BIG.

McCain could pull it off. Im starting to believe he can win.

He needs to get back to his base and propose some new taxes and give aways for illegals. Maybe call republicans “Bigots”. Promise to clamp down on free speech, we have too much of that going on.

There are two NY states.

One is the “Big Apple” and the little apples... (pockets of welfare consumers, and state employees redistributing monies)

Then there are the rest of us rural folk, who are sick and tired of paying for the above, with nothing done about the demise of us all, due to the taxes consumed by the above.

We are bitter, but not for the reasons Obama believes. We are bitter about him, and about Hillary, who will tax the rest of us into abject poverty to support the low-lifes in the ghettos.

There, /rant-off/.... (I do feel better, for the moment, anyway)
