I have been to several third world cities and I have been to LA recently. It is just silly to claim they are alike.

When I was in Adana, Turkey, there were cattle in the streets. There were cats you would give a wide berth to. There were horse and oxen drawn vehicles. There was hot water a couple of hours some days.

Heck when I was in Istanbul there was a guy with a bear on a change who for money would make the bear dance. The bear was muzzled.

LA is a typical US city. It has very nice areas. It has bad areas. It has electricity and running water to all areas. It has paved roads throughout.

Violent crime. Rampant terrorism. Massive illiterate population. Lack of rule of law. I would say that LA has many simularities to third world cities.

There is a group of gypsies that specialize as dancing bear handlers.

Thank you. But the all-knowing types who have never been here will differ with you and believe what they want to. They’re off and running...

My friend, you are completely wrong.

I live in the LA Metropolitan area and it is a third-world city in comparison to all other areas of the state.

Most of the city you would not want to get off the freeway and drive around in.

The freeways themselves have not been updated as LA does not have the money because they spend so much keeping their hospitals afloat and their education system running catering to illegal aliens.

A good proportion of the city has businesses whose signs are written in spanish, they have street vendors everywhere, beggars everywhere, and cock-fighting everywhere, not to mention the 80,000 gang members partially because the city has something called Special Order 40 which does not allow the cops to look into the immigration status of those they arrest.

Your one visit to LA must have been concentrated in some of the nicer area of the city.

LA is indeed far from being a "Third World," city. It is an American city which has been overwhelmed by Third Worlders. Although it is a flagrant example, it is not an uncommon phenomenon in this country, and others.

Hell, it's not even uncommon in The Third World. 60 years ago, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, and Mexico City were great, clean, bustling and above all pleasant modern towns. When rural people in these nations, immigrated en masse to these cities, they degenerated into the hellholes they are today, and which LA is in the process of becoming. Like LA, they have beautiful neighborhoods, but much larger "bad" areas, which range from livable zones, to shantytowns. Unlike LA, the bad areas lack paved roads, and are without water , electricity, sanitation, and other city services.

LA just isn't there. Yet. That is, essential services are very far from breaking down, except for law enforcement, which can police citizens and legal residents fairly well, but is shackled (one way or another) in dealing directly with illegals, who are causing a massive crime wave.

The claim is not that LA is a third world city right now. The claim is that it is becoming a third world city. If you had grown up in LA and seen what has happened to it in the last 30+ years, you would probably understand the cause for cocern.

So does Tijuana, that doesn't mean it's still not rapidly becoming a 3rd world crap hole, which it is.
