U.S. Outlines Steps to Legal Status for Illegal Immigrants Related to 9/11 Victims
New York Times ^ | April 25, 2008 | JULIA PRESTON

Federal officials on Thursday opened a path to temporary legal status for illegal immigrants whose spouses or parents died on 9/11, a step the families’ supporters called a breakthrough in the effort to allow them to remain permanently in the United States.

Lawyers for the immigrants said a concession by Homeland Security officials would help to bring the family members out of the shadows. They also said the measure should help clear a political logjam that has stalled bills in Congress that would grant the immigrants permanent legal status.

“For the first time there is a program for these widows and widowers and orphans to change from being undocumented to having a legal presence in the United States,” said Debra Brown Steinberg, a lawyer representing several of the illegal immigrants. “It will allow them to take their place with the other 9/11 families, by showing that they have faces and names.”

The measure, which was prompted by a request by Ms. Steinberg for help from immigration officials in resolving the legislative impasse, affects no more than two dozen immediate family members of 9/11 victims who have lived in limbo since the attacks. Their spouses, including those who were themselves illegal immigrants, were listed by name as heroes on memorial rosters of the victims. The families received payments from the Victim Compensation Fund, ranging from $875,000 to $4.1 million.

IMHO, here is the lesson...

Leftists will stop at nothing to transform the world into a global socialist utopia and ruin America.

There is no lie they are not willing to tell. Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no river wide enough.

The ends justify the means.

Even if they have to use 9/11 to get new voters and a path to citizenship for illegals. Even if they have to make up a global warming hoax to get people to care about the trees and the carribou.

Yes, it is criminal liberal insanity. And the government and the courts support this crap and crime mixed together. Socialist thugs care only about one thing — POWER AND CONTROL — and as you point out, they will do ANYTHING TO ANYONE AT ANY PRICE TO AMERICA, to get that POWER AND CONTROL.

When will REAL AMERICANS get sick and tired of this rape of America??

I wonder how many millions of illegals this will effect...You would figure they would of least tried to become legal in the last 6 1/2 years.

An entire Mexican town could be related to a single victim!

There is some good news. Even in the Democratic People’s Republic of NJ, I was reading a 274 post blog about legal services in Asbury Park (Bruce’s hometown) about the legal services offered to what they called “Mexican nationals” or “undocumented residents”.

The responses were 70% negative. I think people get it.

Illegal immigration is corporate welfare. Business gets cheap labor, taxpayers pay for the ob/gyn, free diapers and formula, public schools and services.

And the leftist think we always support big business. As if it’s a conspiracy. Welfare is welfare.

Reading deeper into the article, the answer to how many illegals it would effect is = 24.

So it’s OK.

No it's not OK. This is an attempt to set a sympathy precedent. Once they have this in place it will be victims of Hurricane Katrina. Then it will be the victims of the next large LA Earthquake etc, etc...

It's a bad idea. Period.

They have to start somewhere and this is what they feel will be the path of the least resistance from the public. If they pull this off with no backlash they will move on to another act of treason. The problem is that if we blast them over the 9-11 victims, we will look like horrible people, and the traitors in DC know that, but if we don’t do something, then they will ‘get away with it’ and be encouraged to implement the next phase.

ElkGrove says: “You never know on FR these days - sadly.”

So true.

NYTimes says: “Lawyers for the immigrants said a concession by Homeland Security officials would help to bring the family members out of the shadows.”

So, the problem of coming out of the shadows developed AFTER they collected $1 million to $4 million from American taxpayers?
