Glad Bush Is Still Around
Paul Johnson 05.05.08, 12:00 AM ET

I don't regard George W. Bush as a lame-duck president. Between now and next January all sorts of challenging and unexpected events may take place. We can rely on President Bush to react promptly and decisively to them.

We saw this on Sept. 11. The President was as surprised as everyone else, as we grasped from the dramatic photograph of him taken as he was given the dreadful news at an elementary school. But he buckled down quickly to this unprecedented attack on America, determined that such a treacherous outrage should never occur again.

Nor has it. It is worth inquiring why. There is no doubt that attacking the American homeland remains the prime objective of Muslim fundamentalist leaders. Yet they have not done so. One reason for this is the success of Mr. Bush's team in learning the lessons of Sept. 11 and building a security system of impressive strength and sensitivity. It has yet to be breached. Also, the suicide bombers fear being sent to Guantánamo more than they fear death itself. It is right that the prime defender of democracy and freedom should strike terror into the hearts of terrorists.

Brilliant Maneuver

Equally, if not more important, is the way in which Mr. Bush--partly by accident but mainly by design--has switched the war's theater of operations to the death-dealers' territory.

This is right on. I have problems with the President on certain issues but he has passed his most difficult test.

I have no doubt that if gore, kerry, obama or either clinton were in the WH on 9/11 we would all be dhimmis paying jizyah now.

“To dispose of them, one by one, in the West is extremely difficult and expensive...”

And we all know why.

Something the article does not mention was the wisdom of setting up the lightening rod in Iraq. Terrorists flock to this theatre and there we have them on easy terrain.

Regardless of who wins this election, our nation is going to far worse off than under the President’s watch.

I’m afraid the payback for the way the nation (conservatives and liberals) treated this man is going to be terrible.

No other President in my life, including Ronald Reagan, was as honest, steadfast as this one. This nation does not want a real man for a President, they want a wimp or a rock star that will put bandaids on their boo-boos....and they are going to get their wish.

On the other hand, the number of Muslim fanatics who have been killed by the Allies in their operations or who have killed each other in Sunni-Shia clashes must be reckoned in the hundreds of thousands. We shall never know the true tally, but it is plainly enormous.

Thanks for posting. It's a shame that there are so few responses. This article is a wonderful capsule of the extremely significant success under this President and it is astounding that so many terrorists have died with our casualties SO low.

Bush is far, far more successful than the MSM is allowing the American people to realize. The realization will come in time, however.

God has blessed us in our leadership at this time. We could have had 8 years of fear, insecurity, economic havoc. Because of the President, we have had the opposite.

Looking back over the last few years, I find it hard to fault Mr. Bush on any major point. He has always been brave. He has never shown the slightest fear of unpopularity, putting the needs of the nation before his political fortunes.

Amen. Paul Johnson says it well.

He has never shown the slightest fear of unpopularity, putting the needs of the nation before his political fortunes. He has shown himself ready at all times to make big, risky and venturesome decisions, being persuaded they were in the U.S.' (and the West's) interests, and then sticking to them. Indeed, if there's one thing that exceeds Mr. Bush's courage, it's his resolution, his pertinacity, his steadfast consistency.

i completely agree with the above... i love our President, and will miss him greatly... i do not agree with him on everything, but i do believe him to truly be a good, honest, honorable man... the not giving in to popular opinion was refreshing after eight years of Clinton... i can even overlook when he didn't give in to my opinion... he believes what he believes... and his beliefs make him who he is...

At the very least, I think Gore, Kerry or Clinton would have dropped a gratuitous bomb over Afghanistan then gone about their merry way, while the jihadists were strengthened tenfold. The tens of thousands of Islamic militants, now dead, would be romping the earth with a mission.

It’s difficult to imagine they are so blatantly antiAmerican!

Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left

And a review:

**********************************

By  Kat Bakhu (Albuquerque, NM United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left (Hardcover)
I had long wondered why people on the Left had the propensity to speak more positively about people who would slit their throats than they do about their own country, which affords them more freedom and opportunity than anywhere else. David Horowitz has answered that question thoroughly and convincingly in his Unholy Alliance. Where I felt bewildered and confused, I now feel crystal clear. Unholy Alliance is such a great book.

It begins with the leftist movements at the beginning of the 20th Century, and works its way up to the present day, exploring the anti-American attitude of these movements in detail. Horowitz shows that the enemies of the US back then are largely the same group today, operating under the same misperceptions, making the same mistakes, and pursuing the same impossible utopia.

Individual chapters are included on the Patriot Act (I was persuaded that it is a GOOD thing); the democratic flip-flop on Iraq once G.W. Bush implemented what they agreed with Clinton needed to be done; the driving components of the current anti-war movement; as well as chapters on individual personalities who are major spokespeople of the Left. Horowitz covers a lot of ground, and he covers it concisely and clearly. Unholy Alliance is richly informative without ever being boring or plodding.

This book is so illuminating that I simply cannot do justice to it here. I love people who reason so clearly that they help me get my own reasoning clear. Horowitz is just that type of person! In the terrain of mindless clichés (no-blood-for-oil, etc.), he is a breath of real fresh air.

The out of control liberal press has demonized GWB and everything connected to him for eight solid years, and many conservatives helped them the last three for various reasons. McCain and Obama is what it has gotten us.

Even something as fundamental as the success of this war has been morphed into the exact opposite, and seventy percent of Americans believe it....including many here.

I have no doubt that they have. However, I don't believe that they want to do anything until after the election... Though the islamofascists talk with bluster, I believe that they're afraid that if they unload on us again, with Bush as President, that the US public would be willing for him to really unleash some hell upon them, and the dems and media, try as they might, wouldn't be able to do a damn thing to stop it.

It is a eye opening book. Most Americans cannot get their minds around the appalling fact that the radical left (like Obama buddy Ayers) regards the United States as the enemy. Therefore, radical Islam, an opponent of the US is their ally.

"Obama is the next hope for the Lefties to take over control of this nation..."

That may be the RATS' hope, their dream, their fantasy, but I don't think the voters are going to fall for Obama's vacuousness for the next six months. He's shallow, effete, and inexperienced...he's about as weak of a candidate the RATS have put up for President since I don't know when.

It's far better for America's President to react swiftly to intelligence reports of weapons of mass destruction being in the hands of his nation's dedicated enemies than to ignore the warnings and risk such weapons being used against the U.S. and the West.
Mr. Bush was right to adopt a no-risk policy, accepting the partisan criticism of his party's political opponents. This is what a President does in his capacity as Commander in Chief. Indeed, no President worthy of the office could have decided otherwise.

This is the mark of a leader.

I have told a number of people that regardless of who wins this election within two years we will be wishing we had W back. Some have agreed but many have reacted as if they think I am insane. I cringe everytime someone tells me that we can’t possibly do any worse. I fear we will learn EXACTLY how much worse we can do and it won’t be pretty.

Mookie is quickly wearing thin on most Iraqis. With the exception of the thugs in his Mahdi Army, which is being winnowed away, every day, he's losing support in Iraq. Many are beginning to understand that he's an agent provocateur for Iran who is not interested in the future of Iraq, he's only interested in the future of Mookie.
