Nevada GOP's state convention shut down early (Ron Paul)

RENO, Nevada (AP) — Outmaneuvered by raucous Ron Paul supporters, Nevada Republican Party leaders abruptly shut down their state convention and now must resume the event to complete a list of 31 delegates to the GOP national convention.

Outnumbered supporters of expected Republican presidential nominee John McCain faced off Saturday against well-organized Paul supporters. A large share of the more than 1,300 state convention delegates enabled Paul supporters to get a rule change positioning them for more national convention delegate slots than expected.

"I've seen factions walk out. I've never seen a party walk out," said Jeff Greenspan, regional coordinator for the Paul campaign.

Delegates cheered earlier in the day as former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney urged support for McCain. Later, though, Paul got even louder applause as he delivered his message of individual freedom and fiscal responsibility.

State Sen. Bob Beers, the convention chairman, was booed loudly as he called for a recess Saturday evening. He said that the party's rental contract for a big meeting room at a Reno hotel-casino had expired and there was too much work left to complete.

Bush and the big govt theocrats who run the GOP abhor that message. No surprise the state GOP reacted as it did.

Yep.

That has got to be the lamest-ass excuse I've ever heard. No wonder he got booed.

It appears as though Operation Chaos is underway in the socialist Republican party. Hopefully the momentum to oust socialist McCain will grow big enough to prevent him from getting the nomination.

Wow, I hadn't really thought about that aspect. Hmmmm-mm... but can Ron Paul really capture the support of a bigger fraction of the GOP base than McCain?

Hmmm.....maybe the convention was shut down early because of the possibility of a major earthquake in the Reno area? sarc/

Ironically, a political earthquake is about to hit BOTH major political parties in the U.S. of A.

If it weren’t for Paul’s disastrous and idiotic notion to immediately admit defeat to the international mass murderers by running out of Iraq, I could really support him.

Do we want McCain, who is right on the War, but wrong on almost everything else?

Or do we want Paul, who is wrong on the War, but right on almost everything else?

The only thing that keeps me from being a Ron Paul supporter is the bizarre view he takes of defending the country. I understand the whole concept of ‘if we had just stayed home no one would ever bother us’, but that doesn’t match with the reality I see. When I heard he had said that the US hasn’t been in a justified war for 200 years, well, that was it for me. The British invaded Baltimore and he doesn’t think we should have fought back? All his other views though, on private property, individual freedom, small government, etc I’m completely on board with.

As much as I dislike what Paul has become (at least his anti-war stance), it pleases me to see anyone give the Republican Party, the party led by the likes of John McCain, grief.

Thank you Paul delegates. Give them hell! Come convention time, I hope you have made a great noise loud and clear.

I do not support trash like this for President. Anything that makes it clear there is unprecidented rebellion in the Republican ranks is fine with me.

Well, if Paul's wrong on the war our enemies will demonstrate the fact with one of their patented attention-getting steps. After which, Paul will be right on that, too.

The Ron Paul supports signs around Raleigh always make me think the folks putting these slogans together remember all too well their acid-head days. When I'm feeling more charitable? Reminds me of the advertising campaign for Hank's "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" - which I found rather clever.

Herein lies the slice on Ron Paul: You really like him or you don't.

Why, because I mused on Paul's chances of getting any significant number of votes? I'm not a Ron Paul supporter, although I'd consider it, if he weren't quite so much of a whack about the war and a few other things.

I'm a small-l libertarian -- I find much of Paul's message interesting. But he's -too- far out there for me, at least as things stand at present.

If we lose the war . .

The war, such as it was, was won several years ago with the destruction of Iraq's infrastructure and capture of its Baathist government.

Now, if you seriously believe withdrawing from an occupation of a defeated country will cause us to lose our own, you've been reading too much Victor Davis Hanson.

I'm strong on defense, which is where Paul and I mainly part company. The rest of his message sounds better than McCain's line, but I'm not ready to withdraw all our troops from around the world, and I'm afraid that's what a Paul administration would do.

Have no fear. If any of the current three top contenders (2 Dem, 1 Rep) get into the Oval Office, the phrases "individual freedom" and "fiscal responsibility" will be outlawed along with most political speech.

No "/sarc" tag there. I think it's not unlikely -- we are already on that road, even under Bush's administration.

Our national defense must come BEFORE we try to defend others, especially those who don't give a sh!t about freedom (theirs or ours). If we had unlimited resources, then policing the world might be under discussion; but we don't, so it isn't.

Our own interests at home are under attack, and we should be taking care of business at home first.

That said, "first" doesn't mean "only" to me -- there are legitimate reasons for fighting terrorists on their soil before they get to ours. I'd like to see that war done with a lot more vigor and get it the hell over with. What good is all our military might if we're afraid to use it???

Mainly, though, I'd like us to defend ourselves at home better, before we worry about what's halfway around the globe.

“And if we lose our sovereignty, our freedoms, our liberties; where are we then?” maybe the meaning of ‘sovereignty’ means something different where you live. In my country “our sovereignty” is our country’s freedom. In your zeal to disagree you have repeated my argument which I will restate: If we lose the war we lose our country and of course our sovereignty. Our freedoms and liberties are EXACTLY what we would lose if we surrendered as Mr. paul would have us do. If we lost everything but our country we could start again. If we surrender and are overrun by Islamist vermin we could NEVER start again.
