MONTHS before authorities removed 416 children and 139 women against their will from the Texas compound of the fundamentalist Mormon sect, the producers at WE were all over them like a bad smell...
< snip >
Tomorrow's episode tells not just their stories but those of other women and girls who were forced into marriage at 13 and 14 years old.
Carolyn was married off as a teenager to a man called Meryl Jessop, who was 32 years her senior and already had three wives. Jessop was then the No. 2 guy in command and is now the un-anointed Prophet following the conviction of Warren Jessop, the old prophet, for complicity in the rape of a young girl.
She tells how her enslavement began when her father asked "Uncle Roy," who was then the prophet, if Carolyn could go to college. Uncle Roy thought it would be better if she were instead immediately married off to Meryl, who took her from the ceremony to a motel to consummate the marriage. The next morning he told her, all in all, a new dog was better than a new wife, he believed.
Her escape with eight kids in the middle of the night with a near-empty gas tank is the stuff of horror movies.
Also exposed during this show is a baby graveyard in which Flora discovered 200 baby graves that had been dug in one month alone! And it's no wonder. The Prophet directs mothers of crying babies to either slap them until they stop or to hold their infant's face under a running faucet.
There is no reason that this abomination exists in America - and brava to WE for keeping this story going.

Ping to a must see for tomorrow night. Thanks, dead.
People keep making accusations of heinous crimes. The local Sheriff says he had infiltrated the cult for 2 years. Where are the criminal charges? This article implies 200 murders. It reminds me of Waco.
Shall we have a vote before we shred the 1st Ammendment, or is a good emotional knee-jerk good enough?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
"We didn't invite them here, but by God we are going to make sure they follow the law," Hilderbran said. "This violates Texas values and our lifestyle and the way we see traditional relationships. We are not going to tolerate it."
I'm guessing criminal charges will be coming, once the investigation is completed.
So does that mean my fledgling First Church of the Holy Bank Robber is a go?
I would like this accusation to be false, simply because of the suffering involved.
LOL! My Dad used to talk about starting a religion whose observances were stealing cars and making whiskey.
He sure seems to have an open mind. Oh, they will bring charges, but they will have nothing to do with the original reason for the raid. Their best bet is obstruction of “Justice”. It will be tossed on appeal and the gubmint will be on the hook for a HUGE civil settlement after all of the lawyers line up and sue for nearly 500 cases of “mental anguish” at $1,000,000 each. Then, of course, there will be some money for violating their civil rights.
Amen sister
Thank you, Miss Cleo. So glad you have gazed into your crystal ball and seen into the minds of the authorities, and can tell us the future.
If anyone deserves money for pain and suffering, it’s the children and child wives who have suffered at the hands of the fLDS.
You're welcome! Where are the charges of child abuse or statutory rape? The longer this goes, the smellier it gets.
You can’t bring charges until you investigate. Gosh, even my grand nephew (age 10) knows that.
I have been hoping all the allegations are false.
That's pretty presumptuous. Many of those women and girls didn't look too let down to be leaving.
The media got that right about themselves for once. They are a bad smell.
