Given the historical illiteracy and incoherence presented here, I see no need to read the rest of it.

Ed Rollins is a know-nothing RINO. The only thing the Reagan coalition is missing, is someone who actually believes in it and someone who can articulate it.

I am in no way trying to through the gauntlet down here to you or others.

I am not sure about the age of Reagan, but I do, unfortunately believe, the age of the Republican Party being the champion of "Constitutional Conservatism" is indeed over.

Again I don't take solace in the fact nor wish to start an argument with you or any of the remaining faithful in the GOP.

Just stating a response, heartfelt, to the article.

Reagan believed in conservatism. He stood with America’s Founding Fathers and agreed with those basic concepts they set forth in the US Constitution. The ideas of freedom and liberty will never die. The major problem has been the opposition to a limited federal government over the last 40 years by America’s liberal establishment.

Reagan may be gone, but the Constitution is still the supreme law of the land. The great ideological battle between the politics of rightwing and leftwing isn’t over. The war for the heart and soul of America continues.

Like Washington, Adams and Jefferson, Reagan is still with us today.

They may be right the Reagan Era is over. I'd say though those who are predicting the demise of conservatism are engaging in wishful thinking. Our movement has troubles - but its far from dead - yet.

Not the same old socialist, Princeton professor Sean Wilentz - organizer of the full page ad defending the rapist against the impeachment charges and attacker of Antonin Scalia.

Why am I not surprised he believes the age of Reagan is over - he's held that belief since before Reagan became President.

>the Republican establishment never fully recovered from Watergate, another unexpected consequence of Vietnam

I thought Watergate
was about using hookers
to get blackmail dirt

on political
opponents and when someone
tried to bug the whores

they got caught. What's that
got to do with Vietnam?
Was that hookers, too?!

I understand your desire for this to be the case given your cheerleader status for McAmnesty, but I have news for you, this author’s analysis and your fondest desires are much further removed from reality than you realize.

Just because the leadership has drifted off to the left doesn't mean the body isn't still there. The Repub elites always preferred the McCains to the Reagans. So they served up a McCain. All that means is they have guaranteed the coming calamity. And, since the leadership is gone, into the vacuum will step someone as yet unknown. I'm betting things won't be very pretty at that point. My guess is that the wishful and delusional “leadership” of this nation have used up all of their Grace.

The age of Reagan, born out of the center's collapse in the '60s and '70s, has, thanks to George W. Bush, finally lost its relevance, except as a nostalgic touchstone of bygone Republican glory.

What makes this article so silly is its failure to appreciate that ideas matter. Reagan stood for eternal truths in politics and economics -- truths first revealed by the likes of Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Constant, Adam Smith, Hayek, von Mises, etc. Reaganism is no fleeting political fad -- so long as Republican politicians remain true to their principles.
