ATLANTA, April 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today said that a new study released by Students for Life of America reinforces the call of black leaders to eliminate federal subsidies to Planned Parenthood.

"It's time to let freedom ring for the babies," said Dr. King. "The Students for Life report on Planned Parenthood's targeting of African Americans for abortion spells out why taxpayers should not be forced to contribute to that organization. The government should not be subsidizing racism, but that's exactly what it's doing through Planned Parenthood."

The study examines programs and incidents dating from Planned Parenthood's founding through the most recent scandal of seven Planned Parenthood chapters' willingness to accept donations for the exclusive purpose of aborting black babies.

"Defending human life is part of the civil rights struggle and I and my fellow pro-life African American leaders are not going away," added Dr. King. "We are uniting civil rights and moral rights to fulfill the dream of what my uncle called 'the beloved community.' America needs to know that black leaders do support life. We start where life begins, with the babies, and we will march on until abortion, racism, and all society's ills bow to the truth that we are all one race."

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.

OK, glad she's speaking up.

But I am a little tired of everything being cloaked in terms of race.

Is aborting a black child more immoral than aborting a white one?

Think Al Sharpton will get out on the street with Alveda King to protest the real genocide of black children in this country?

Absolutely not.

However, the fact is that Planned Parenthood was founded by racists, their clinics target poor neighborhoods and black babies are aborted at three times the rate that white babies are.

More black Americans are killed in abortuaries EVERY THREE DAYS than were killed in lynchings in the Twentieth Century.

Correct me if Im wrong but wasn’t this program a liberal one? On the other hand Dr. King is defending human rights only because it serves the civil rights struggle. Who will pay for these unwanted babies? Certainly not the single mother and certainly not the load mouths who demand it.
Once again entitlement programs new and greater will be put forward at the taxpayers expence to care for these children until they are 18 years of age. What happened to pro choice? Guess it doesn’t serve a purpose unless thier is an underlying cause that is greater. One more nail in the back of America on it’s way to socialism.

would she have spoken up if abortion didn’t have a “racial dimension?”

I hate to break this to you, but killing people that were deemed "inferior" is a mainstay of socialism.

Freedom CANNOT exist where innocent members of society are systematically targeted for death.

Dr. King’s entire ministry is centered on ending abortion, she is an associate with one of the most effective pro-life groups in America.

First, defund Planned Parenthood, then outlaw it!

Let abortions happen in the back alley in the middle of the night - twisted doctors will still perform abortions for the ghoulish.

Yours truly,

I concur with your thoughts. Abortion might be construed as “black genocide” although you can’t prove that. It’s also arguable that abortion hurts women. Abortion is linked with breast cancer. Abortion is linked with severe depression. It also hurts men, now we are seeing some of them come forward with reports of regret and even suicidal thoughts. All of these are important points that good, courageous people like Alveda King are making known to the public. Her efforts are commendable and she’s a great lady.

However, all of the above is not the reason abortion is immoral and should be illegal, the only justifiable reason for that is because it’s indefensible murder. This fundamental truth must be adhered to, because all the other stuff can be debated or worked around.

Also, technology will eventually make abortion a personal thing, we already have a prescription “morning after” pill. Eventually it will be non-prescription. Pharma companies are working on other ways to chemically induce miscarriage in the privacy of one’s home. Laws are being considered to make it easier to get abortion too, can be done by nurse instead of doctor, etc.

So arguments that are essentially political or emotional may be effective in the short run, they are dramatic. But as long as people do not understand that they personally are murdering an innocent life if they have an abortion, all the other stuff will become outdated slogans over time.

It’s not a matter of racism, health, or anything else, those are side issues, the idea we must get people to understand and BELIEVE in their hearts is simply that IT IS A BABY.

Well said. And not just because you agreed — but because you articulated what I merely alluded to.

God Bless her and all the nameless, faceless people who toil in the trenches for no reward other than knowing they are helping to end the scourge known as legalized abortion. They are earning crowns all.

Killing any baby via abortion is murder most foul. But (such is our twisted human nature) many people get upset only about particular categories of babies.

For instance, I have read articles by several disability rights people who are "generally" pro-abort but are opposed to search-and-destroy missions against Downs and other disabled babies; feminist pro-aborts who think sex selection abortion (against female babies) is immoral; and of course there are FReepers amongst us who find it particularly offensive that 50,000,000 American babies have been killed in the last 35 years.

Perhaps some Americans wouldn't be too upset about the murder of unborn Muslim babies in Egypt, which has an abortion rate almost exactly equal to ours in the USA. But it's only natural to care for "your own" first and most.

In any case, I think it's legitimate to address people constructively by appealing to their most compassionate and protective instincts. If people are already pro-gay, you talk about how awful it would be if (hypothetically) genetically pre-gay babies were hunted down and killed before birth. If people are highly sensitive to racism, you talk about the grossly disproportionate number of black babies being killed. Start where they're at.

Eventually our hearts and minds may get stretched to the point where we care about every human life. We can only hope.
