The Nevada Republican party suspended its convention on Saturday night with no delegates elected to attend the party's national convention in September. The state party chairman, Sue Lowden says that the party will reconvene to nominate the state's 31 delegates in Las Vegas at a later date.
An argument over the delegate nominating process sent the party into disarray. The nominating committee put forth a list of candidates and called for a vote. Ron Paul supporters on the floor were unhappy with the list of candidates. Through a rule change, delegates were able to start nominating candidates from the floor of the convention.
The new nominating process more than doubled the number of candidates for Nevada's national delegation. Lowden says the convention was overwhelmed and did not have the capacity to process the number of ballots.
"Unfortunately, with the rule changes implemented this morning, we did not have time to complete the process. Our contract for the meeting space had expired, as had our budget, and ballots were unable to be physically produced by the nominations committee," Lowden said in a written statement.
Chairmen Bob Beers told the crowd that they were out of time to use the room at the Peppermill in Reno, and called the convention to a recess. He was booed loudly and left the convention with a security escort.
An argument over how to proceed swept through the convention. Delegates shouted across the convention floor.
"McCain people leave."
"Paul people stay."
"McCain people stay,"
"We're all here for the same reason."
Some delegates walked out. Others stayed to express their dissatisfaction with the process or to make sure party business didn't reconvene without them. Convention Chairman and state Senator Bob Beers eventually called a recess and left the building with a security escort.
Party member Mike Weber tried unsuccessfully to reconvene the convention.
"This is not what the Republican Party is about," Weber said.
In the end, there were not enough people left at the convention to continue with party business. Party leaders say the same people present at Saturday's convention will eventually come to an agreement and elect delegates to represent Nevada at the national convention.
"It is my intention to ask the Cox Pavilion to grant us the same accommodations as they did the state Democrat party- to let us use the building for one day to complete our election process. We will reconvene with the same state delegates and elect our national delegates," Lowden said.
The party has not yet determined when the second date of the convention will be held.
Rumors were going around on Sunday afternoon that Republican Party leaders were having a secret meeting at the Peppermill. We contacted the Peppermill and determined that those rumors were not true.
Ron Paul supporters gone wild ping!
>> “This is not what the Republican Party is about,” Weber said.
What percentage of the constituency would say the Party’s a joke?
Good point.
Actually more than I care to think.
This link here shows you just how wild they got. This guy with the red face:

You proved my point. LOL

Some of these people just don’t understand how left this guy is on many issues. Sure, anybody can talk about the constitution, but giving it lip service is one thing.
I thought he was a fairly good congressman, but on a national scale, a lot of that BS don’t fly.
It’s a sad funny. Unfortunately, this is not a satire. This is an example of what happens when Ron Paul supporters have too much coffee.
:-)
This is why Nevada should’ve stayed with their primary, and not changed it to the caucus, especially on the same day as the South Carolina primary.
Ron Paul supporters are trying to infiltrate the GOP convention so they can riot.
I hope the GOP is not that stupid.
He probably was, but as you say, you can't apply the same to the nation. Each indivdual state's needs are different, but you can't go and trash the war in Iraq, because that is of importance to Americans. The isolationist approach no longer works with terror.
I know Senator Bob Beers isn’t that stupid. He could see what was going on. So, they’ll try it again in Vegas. This time they’ll be prepared for Ron Paul supporters.
[Its a sad funny.]
I live in his district. Used to like him years ago but he has turned sadly funny!!
But the family sends out a great cookbook!!
I hope to h*ll it did TB. the way our system worked, he is all we have. I do not agree with those that would have Clinton or Obama to “teach’ the Republicans a lesson. That is akin to shooting oneself in the foot.
Much like South Texas noted that as a state senator he did well, but as a President, governing a country, it’s completely different.
I'm still pissed off that the Republicans jerrymandered the districts and put me in one that goes all the way to the border! And now I have a rat rep to boot.
I agree. It’s best to try to work with something less than perfect that’s at least has some roots in conservatism. McCain’s early voting record is a good one. It’s everything after 2000 that branded him “The Maverick.”
Mi casa es su casa, ST. :-)
He’s a decent man and I hate to make fun of him but I couldn’t stand listening to him in debates.
Remember that some of the TX districts, especially the border ones, were not drawn by the GOP redistrictors, but by the Justice Dept. Whose district are you in ?
I’m sure he is a decent man, but he was embarrassing in the debates. Once he started on Iraq, it went down hill.
Yes, I wrote that I couldn’t stand listening to him. Plus he needs voice lessons as he sounded like Donald Duck!
Mean me!
Ron Paul ping.
I’m in the 15th. I know there was some collusion, but we were in the southern end of Ron Paul’s before it got “fixed”.
Never quite understood where he was going with some of his jumping across isles, still think he’s better than the alternatives, even with the warts.
I heard about this today.
It sounds like the Paulites tried to stage a coup!
Ron Paul pi(n)g.
How about some reality?
Looking at what we have today, you'd have to dig way down deep to even see those roots, only to find out the roots have been all but severed.
Hinojosa is no prize, but he’s at least not a raving moonbat. Still, that’s really a Justice Dept. mandated district (rodent-protection district). Fact is, Republicans are not given a free hand anywhere (even when “in charge”) to draw the lines as they see fit. Whites and Conservative non-Whites enjoy no special rights with respect to political representation. Rodents, on the other hand, can draw the districts any way they like.
Argh, excuse me, I got Solomon Ortiz and Hinojosa confused, I swiftly retract my comment about him not being a moonbat.
Can I not enjoy my fantasy land a little longer? :-)
They’ll try it again in Vegas later, and they’ll be ready this time.
GOOD!
Let us know what happens, pretty please.
No retractions allowed on this thread. :-)
Yep. I’ll let you know what happens.
Other than “because they could,” whats all this about anyway?
McCain is the nominee, so whats the hubbub, bub?
I mean being nuttier than a fruitcake isn’t going to help conservatives at all, and although I am not supporting McCain, I don’t see any point.
Nothing, other than the fact that since they strayed from the primary system into a caucus, it showed that there is still disorganization within the state Republican Party. Nothing else really.
Ron Paul’s positions on war among others are of concern to me but of at least equal concern is the true nature of some of his *apparent* supporters, who may be supporting him to split the GOP vote first and foremost.
And to legalize the flow of illegal drugs that swift sure punishment for dealing would end.
By the way, I’d vote for your tagline. :-)
is that McCain
It reminds me of that movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers
:-)
Id vote for your tagline...
hey, thanks ;^)

We are meeting next month in Virginia to pick delegates to the convention, and our biggest focus is making sure Ron Paul supporters to lie about supporting McCain to sneak in and disrupt the national convention with anti-war diatribes.
This is serious stuff. The media would love to show a large anti-war anti-mccain contingent at our convention, and our nominating process is very easily taken over by people who want that to happen.
