Pelosi Says She Heard Disputed Bible Verse from Priest By Pete Winn CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer April 29, 2008
(CNSNews.com) - The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told Fox News last week that Pelosi heard the disputed Bible "passage" she used in her April 22 Earth Day message from a priest in San Francisco.
Brit Hume reported last Thursday on "Special Report with Brit Hume" that Pelosi's office had told Fox News that the Speaker had "heard a priest quote the verse many years ago during a mass in San Francisco."
On Thursday, Friday, and again on Monday, however, the Speaker's office did not respond to requests for comment made by Cybercast News Service , which first reported on Wednesday, April 23 that biblical scholars have cast doubt on the authenticity of the passage.
In her news release, Pelosi said the quote - 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us' - came from the Old Testament.
Biblical scholars told Cybercast News Service that the quote does not appear anywhere in the Bible--Old or New Testament. Moreover, they say nothing similar can be found in Scripture.

In her defense, I can easily believe that in San Francisco a priest would falsely quote the Bible at a mass.
the face of evil
Let me guess: She was so moved by that statement that she wrote it down, took it home and memorized it. Right? Then she waited years for just the right moment to employ it. BTW, have any used cars for sale Nancy?
Did the priest also have a quote about what happens to people who lie about the Good Book?
EHHH? Would that be the King James version he misquoted? If I remember correctly that version was off limits when I was a kid in Catholic school.
I hope she has blamed a dead priest who can’t defend himself.
And we needed Biblical scholars to tell us that? What, people can't open up Blue Letter Bible and run a search in five seconds, if they don't already know the answer?
Wonder what other quotes she remembers from the priest?
Or is this the only one?
Doubtless.
There's nothing like that "verse" appearing in the scary ol' King James!
She fell asleep at mass and dreamed it.
Pelosi was in a church and lightning didn’t strike?
It doesn’t matter which translation one is comparing to. I’ve read the entire Orthodox canon of Scripture through several times (longer even what you Latins use), and not only do the ‘verses’ ‘quoted’ not occur, I don’t even recall anythingof which a loose paraphrase would come out as ‘quoted’.
“If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18-19
Uh oh!!!
Funny. She didn’t hear the Pope telling her she can’t take communion.
Was the Priest’s name Guido Sarducci?
"I didn't hear it myself. The Priest actually was speaking with my wife ... Morgan Fairchild."
