Just saw a History Channel show with old interviews of Hofmann. What a bicyclist.

Wow, 102. Maybe he also discovered the Life Extenionist’s long sought elixr, and chose not to share. RIP Mr. Hoffman. I don’t believe he was trying to invent a new recreational drug, was he?

Wasn’t he once known as ‘Abbie Hoffman’?

Well, I guess LSD doesn’t necessarily lead to early death.

Despite all the jokes, Hofmann was regarded as one of the most brilliant chemists of the 20’th century. He had very little to do with the social trajectory LSD took once it’s psychoactive properties were fully appreciated. The cult status he enjoyed was largely foisted on him.

He was working on synthesizing derivatives of ergot. I seem to recall that it had something to do with finding a medication for migraines. Anyway, he synthesized LSD-25 and then did nothing more with it for several years and then, when taking another look at it, happened to ingest some. After that he and others experimented with varying amounts of it.
