The man who is the subject of a regionwide manhunt after allegedly killing a Texas state trooper was once a peace officer himself.
Records with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education show the man wanted for the shooting death of trooper James Scott Burns, 39, of Linden during a high speed chase Tuesday night is a former lawman in Rusk County.

We lost another fine officer last night. Husband and father of a 5 month old baby.

I first suspected that the “perp” might have been yet another illegal alien (yes, they are hired by police departments) but found probably another man who probably had a record when he was hired by the Tyler P.D.

“”I first suspected that the perp might have been yet another illegal alien....””
Is this a record?
It only took two posts and the words “illegal alien” was used and this in a story having NOTHING to do with illegal immigration.

LE is looking for a mook named “Brandon Wayne Robertson”, who, one might surmise from his name, may be a part of the illegal Scottish immigration wave currently washing over the great State of Texas.

It is possible but not probable.
In a soutwest Texas town recently I was stopped by a police officer whose Hispanic accent was so thick I had to ask him two or three times what he was saing.
I was surprised.
His English was correct but almost incomprehensible with the accent.
Very good false documents are available.
He was also impatient and close to being rude.
It was a minor infraction.

That is terrible, but the unions will probably try to get the killers job back.

I wish you out of staters would learn, this is Texas. We are a right-to-work state. We don't have unions under every leaf.
There are police unions in the larger cities, but I doubt Tyler is one of them!

Makes you wonder if the fact the suspect was a former law enforcement person was what maybe caused this Trooper to drop his guard!
Sympathy and prayers for the officer's family!

More than likely poor training and over-emotional response and the fact the murderer had knowledge of how to end the pursuit to his advantage by drawing the Trooper in and stopping quickly and exiting his vehicle quickly with the Trooper close.

Not trying to harrass you, but my point was unions do not have a large influence in Texas!
And I can assure you of this, the one thing cops don’t tolerate is a “cop killer”.

Did he ask you if you minded that he search your vehicle for “weapons”? SOP on a minor traffic stop in Texas.
In a small South Texas town in the 70s, they had a local Constable that could not read or write. When he stopped drivers after running their one stoplight, he would hand them his ticketbook and tell them as part of their punishment he was having them fill out their own tickets. True story.
Local JP put an end to that after the hilarious (and not so hilarious) comments that were being written in the blanks, what a hoot! No place but Texas!!
