'Ramos, Compean must ask for clemency' 'there's a process' for pardons

The two former U.S. Border Patrol agents who were sentenced to prison terms of more than a decade each for shooting at a drug smuggler who dumped a load in the United States, then fled on foot back into Mexico rather than be arrested, must ask if they want clemency in their cases, according to the White House.

"There is a process under which anyone can apply for a pardon or a commutation. And if they want to take advantage of that process, they're absolutely welcome to," Dana Perino, the White House spokeswoman, told WND today.

She was responding to a question from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House, about the case involving Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. It has been a subject of dispute among border control advocates ever since the two were arrested.

That’s what happened to Scooter, if you recall.

Basically we have two innocent men being further humiliated by telling them they have to ask for a pardon or a commutation. Is the White House that clueless, or do they just want to rub it in? It has been clear to many that these men are being punished for doing their job. I have never seen anything like this except during the corrupt Clinton Administration. How sad.

The Mexicans have picture of Bush from one of his “lost weekends” in Mexico.

As the son of a prominant American politician I’m sure the crooked Mexican government had/has some blackmail.

Scooter was convicted. Scooter was appealing. Bush Commuted his sentence. Scooter dropped appeal.

Hope that helps you out.

And, after all these years, the Mexican government kept those incriminating photos close to its vest in order to railroad two innocent Border Patrol agents for shooting a drug smuggler.

Courts are run by judges. District Attorneys are supposed to act independently of the prosecution but this is generally not the case.

The juries are shielded from some information in cases.

I've heard a lot of the basic details again and again. I'm sure the answers about why this didn't come up at appeal (Or if it did, why it didn't “matter”)are online if you want to look for them.

Scooter dropped his appeal. You fail. Care to try again? Or is one knee-jerk reaction enough?

I agree. It just sickens me a little more because they have to beg for a pardon. I hope some day we find out why the Bush Administration is so rotten in connection with this case.

Well, bearing in mind that unless you are sitting in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, you have no idea what is being argued there.

One of the things I really don’t like about President Bush is that he seems to feel no sense of loyalty to people working for him or for the country he serves when they are unfairly treated by his political enemies.

It’s much the same with the Haditha marines. And Scooter Libby. Bush is their commander in chief, they served faithfully, but he persistently lets his men down whenever they are scapegoated by the Democrats.

Or Peter Pace.
