Why Wal-Mart Won't Strengthen Our Economy
Yahoo ^ | 4/30/2008 | Yahoo

It's tax rebate time, and no one is hungrier for the tax rebate checks arriving in mailboxes today than Wal-Mart. The retailer is advertising tax-rebate sales and has offered to cash the checks for free -- all in hopes that consumers will spend their newfound money at Wal-Mart stores. But spending your tax rebate at Wal-Mart won't stimulate the economy -- and here's why.

We borrowed the stimulus money from China, and it will go right back there plus interest.

Basically they’re berating Walmart over it’s employment policies....wow, like we haven’t heard this before.

I’m not a fan of Walmart because they import cheap products from China, not because they pay their employees crap. No one is making you work at Walmart.

The vast majority of retailers get their products from overseas. None of this is news and it isn’t even close to being a Walmart problem. Whether you go to Home Depot, Best Buy, Target, K-Mart, or Walmart, most of your products will be made in China.

Read the article. The main complaint is the standard lib whine about Walmart - they won’t bend over for unions.

Yea, I agree — I don’t really care what Wal-Mart does about its employees but its a FACT that Wal-Mart gets over 70% of its goods from communist China.

Spending the tax stimulus check at Wal-Mart will just accelerate our U.S. dollars going into the hands of communists Chinese militarists.

Not saying they don’t, just saying that Walmart is the biggest in sales.

Better to funnel it through a Teamster or UAW-run entity, eh?

For starters Conservatives should not post Marxist trash from the habitual liars at Huffington Post.

Economically ignorant and factually wrong on every count here.

Wal Mart does not “underpay” it work force. That just an out right lie. There is no “under pay” or “over pay” in a free market. Labor is paid what it is worth. If it does not find it acceptable it goes else where. As usual the hysteric morons at Huffington Propaganda cannot even get basic facts correct

Just how many hundred of thousands of Americans work for Wal Mart in their stores, their offices their distribution centers? A significant chunk of Wal Marts employees are white collar professionals who draw significantly BETTER salaries then the trash that work for the Huffington Post or in most Journalism outlets. By spending your stimulus check at Wal Mart you make sure those 10 of thousands of employees stay employed thus drawing a wage thus generating more in tax revenues.

There there are all the taxes paid by Wal Mart for their properties on their profits etc

THEN there thousands of US Manufactures who sell to Wal Mart and their employees. OH that right, the usual trash talking Neo Marxist clowns on “net don't bother to learn how many American's sell stuff to Wal Mart.

Then there are all the ordinary working people who have 401ks or Union Pension plans that hold Wal Mart stock and because of the 10s of millions of people who spend money at Walmart earn dividends that increase their savings for retirement

But then I guess it so much easier to simply post overly emotional insanely ignorant drivel at your fashionable trust fund baby funded Website then it is to learn even the most simple, basic facts about how the US Economy works.

Always interesting to note how the richest elitist Left scum, like those at Huffy Poop always want US to give up more of our freedom to gratify their arrogant elitist emotion based dogmas.

No, well that might be their argument but not mine... the problem is simply this, when your economy is driven 70% by consumption you cannot stimulated the economy long term.. without production, you have no prayer once the lending pipe shuts down and consumers stop buying.

More Freepers parroting capitalism-hating lefties. Wonderful. OK, let’s get started.

“Despite bringing in over $378 billion last year, Wal-Mart repeatedly underpays its American workforce.”

Flat out BS. I applied for jobs at 3 different US manufacturing plants in Arkansas. Wal-Mart paid better than every one of them.

“Wal-Mart also pays poorly. While the company seeks to benefit from the government’s rebate payout, Wal-Mart’s low wages means store employees have little or no disposable income to spend to stimulate the economy.”

More of the same BS. By saving money at Wal-Mart, consumers have more disposable income. As I said, Wal-Mart pays better than many non-union manufacturing jobs which are at or just above minimum wage.

“Wal-Mart sources the vast majority of its products from countries overseas, meaning most of the cost of a given Wal-Mart product doesn’t go into the U.S. economy.”

BS again. These are AMERICAN companies who also employ american people and whose stock is also owned by Americans. They have some of their goods manufactured in China. Those goods are sold in every store that sells that brand. What does that have to do with Wal-Mart?

“Wal-Mart underfunds its health care plan and cuts corners whenever possible, forcing many of its employees to postpone care, thus decreasing their productivity and increasing the eventual cost of their treatment.”

Where is the slightest evidence to support that notion? I remember a year ago it was said Wal-Mart employees couldn’t get insurance. That lie was publicly debunked so now it’s “underfunded”? BS.

“Wal-Mart routinely dodges state and local taxes, meaning money spent at a Wal-Mart store won’t end up in your community. Wal-Mart actively works to challenge property tax assessments and creates complex real estate arrangements to obscure how much taxes the company owes. When Wal-Mart dodges its tax burden, it takes precious revenues away from cities and states to pay for roads, schools and other services. In turn, individual taxpayers are forced to pay more to make up the difference (which takes more money out of their pockets) or get by with less.”

Again, BS. Any responsible entity will do all it can to avoid as much tax as possible to cut costs and keep prices for their customers low. It’s called good business sense. Wal-Mart does it legally. This guy thinks Wal-Mart’s “tax burden” goes beyond what the law allows.

I HATE Marxists.

Wrong as always. Your ignorance of simple economic facts is only exceed by the arrogance with which you demonstrate that ignorance daily.

But I know, your god Ron Paul screamed the lie about China "loaning the US Govt 3 million a day to fund our debt" and you never bothered to actually do the math and realize just what an absurdly stupid lie that claim by Paul was.

So you’d rather Chinese get the business to spite unions?

I’m not in favor of unions, but I am in favor of Americans working over Chinese.

Who is talking about Ron Paul? I'm talking about how stupid it is to constantly deficit spend to "stimulate" the economy.

Do you ever post anything that isn't an attack?
