O, No: Winfrey a no-show
Politico ^ | 5/2/08 | CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN & JEFFREY RESSNER

When Barack Obama needed Oprah Winfrey’s help, she delivered.

When he needed an infusion of campaign cash, she threw a star-studded fundraiser last summer at her California estate. When he needed a big-name draw in the early-primary states, she addressed massive crowds in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

And when Obama was looking for a late boost in a critical Super Tuesday state, Winfrey was once again there for him, giving up her Sunday afternoon for a Los Angeles rally.

But as Obama faces his most crucial primary day in months and struggles to move past the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy, Winfrey is far from the campaign trail, appearing more focused on sweeps — not election — season.

Indeed, since Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, Oprah has been absent from Obama's side. Her people say other projects have kept her too busy to hit the hustings for the candidate. His people say they’d love to have her but don’t need her help in attracting crowds anymore. Either way, people expecting to see her on the stump anytime soon may have to hold their breath longer than David Blaine did this week on her namesake talk show.

Yet it would seem like the perfect time for Obama to call in his super surrogate, considering the next two states up for grabs: North Carolina has a significant African-American population, and Indiana shares a border and a media market with Illinois, where Winfrey resides and tapes her talk show.

Does anybody know why Oprah stopped going to Wright’s church several years ago?

So...

What we have here is a black diva that is racist enough to support a candidate simply because he is black (generic rah-rah rhetoric aside). Whe it turns out that her dreamboat is shown to have undeniable racist overtones through his close assoication with an open and vehement racist, she pulls her support because her viewers who are basically white people anxious to show that they aren’t racist and, thus, follow her because she is entertaining - first - and secondly, as an eminently acceptable black woman. Now that her main man has been shown to be tainted by racism, it is unacceptable to be painted with the same brush.

So, the question is...where do white people seeking to not appear racists find a racist spokeswoman willing to support a racist candidate that effectively conceals their racism and, thus, allow white anti-racists to freely elect a black racist to prove their lack of racism?

has Oprah ever made a statement about why she left? Everyone is assuming it’s Wright’s over-the-top preaching, but I have yet to see/hear a statement by Oprah.

IF that is the reason she left, her judgment and political instincts beat all hell out of Obama’s.

Oprah Backlash From Angry White Females

It began with one post on Oprah Winfrey’s popular website Oprah.com. A of Hillary Clinton’s supporter blowing off steam following Barack Obama’s upset victory over Hillary in the Iowa Caucuses, criticized Oprah for backing Obama over Clinton.

“I cannot believe that women all over this country are not up in arms over Oprah’s backing of Obama,” Hillary’s campaign supporter wrote. “For the first time in history we actually have a shot at putting a woman in the White House and Oprah backs the black MAN. She’s choosing her race over her gender.” That post prompted hundreds of abusive comments from angry white women who consider Oprah a traitor for turning against another white woman.

While Obama’s aides suggest Oprah may return to the campaign trail, her critics believe she is running scared.

Another explanation:

At that rally she attended with Obama. Remember how concerned she was about the woman who fainted? Maybe Oprah became upset with Obama when she learned the fainting was one of a series of similar sympathy stunts.

“But as Obama faces his most crucial primary day in months and struggles to move past the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy, Winfrey is far from the campaign trail”...

Looks like Oprah — after Trinity gate — has decided to ‘kick’ Obama to the curb.

Methinks Oprah doesn’t want any of Reverend Wright’s chicken’s roosting in HER backyard!

LOL!
