Boris Victory Adds To Labour Misery (New London Mayor Boris Johnson ousts Ken Livingstone)
Sky News UK ^ | 3:58, Saturday May 03, 2008 UK Time

Boris Johnson has been elected Mayor of London, adding to Labour's misery after disastrous local elections.

The Conservative candidate beat Ken Livingstone with Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick in third place.

Mr Johnson polled 1,168,738 votes to Mr Livingstone's 1,028,966. After second preferences were allocated, Mr Johnson achieved around 53% to Mr Livingstone's 47%.

The result put further pressure on Prime Minister Gordon Brown after his party suffered its worst council election results in four decades.

After the result was announced, the new mayor thanked his team and praised his opponents, particularly Mr Livingstone who he described as a "very considerable public servant".

And he promised Londoners: "I will work flat out from now on to earn your trust and to dispel some of the myths that have been created about me.

Mr Livingstone accepted defeat in the contest and said it was his own fault that he hadn't won a third election.

Unfortunalely he’s with Rev Wright in thinking that Israel is a “terrorist nation”. He wrote it in his own article. Not one of us. Better than Ken though.

Is the new guy a global warming alarmist? It seems like the former Mayor was a Jihadists wet dream as well as an eco-nut.

Hardly an eco-nut. Read an article he wrote recently:

"Humanity has largely lost its fear of hellfire, and yet we still hunger for a structure, a point, an eschatology, a moral counterbalance to our growing prosperity. All that is brilliantly supplied by climate change. Like all the best religions, fear of climate change satisfies our need for guilt, and self-disgust, and that eternal human sense that technological progress must be punished by the gods."

Anybody know how our own media is portraying the Labour losses? A quick glance at the front page of the NYT mentions nothing but a one-liner of a Tory kicking out Livingstone.

Are you serious ? If he subscribes to that diseased mindset, he’s identical to Red Ken.

Johnson is a eccentric riot, Im looking forward to watching all the heads explode as he insults pretty much everyone.

Yeah, I’ll dig up the article that he wrote for the paper and post a link to you when I find it. The new Tories took their opposition position very seriously and in reaction to Blair’s good relations with the US, have become very anti-American. Many or most of their supporters are not such but that is the theme being presented by their officers.

Well I know a lot of the Tories went to the dark side opposing Blair and leaving Thatcherism in the dust, but if this guy is calling Israel a terrorist nation, that’s simply evil.

I know the British conservative party has been taken over by their version of RINOs lately (their leader David Cameron definitely apes the "Labour Party" agenda), but I'd be shocked if this Johnson guy is a Israel hater. Here's what he had to say about Islamofacism back in 2005:

Johnson made the following comments about Islam in his Spectator column shortly after the July 7 bombings --

"It is time to reassert British values…That means disposing of the first taboo, and accepting that the problem is Islam. Islam is the problem. To any non-Muslim reader of the Koran, Islamophobia — fear of Islam — seems a natural reaction, and, indeed, exactly what that text is intended to provoke. Judged purely on its scripture — to say nothing of what is preached in the mosques — it is the most viciously sectarian of all religions. The trouble with this disgusting arrogance and condescension is that it is widely supported in Koranic texts, and we look in vain for the enlightened Islamic teachers and preachers who will begin the process of reform. What is going on in these mosques and madrasas? "When is someone going to get 18th century on Islam’s medeval ass?"

In any case that's sounds like a very strong pro-WOT and pro-western civilization position, certainly miles ahead of Red Ken.

I don't know just how conservative Johnson really is, but I'm guessing he's probably better than that new President of France (Sarkozy), who has alot of American conservatives fawning over him simply because he puts on a dog-and-pony show about how much he "loves" the U.S., though politically he's not much difference from Hillary on the issues (gun-grabber, pro-abortion, envirowacko, socialist, etc.). He's very much what Huckabee was accused of being -- a "nanny stater" poising as a "conservative". That's probably the best we're going to get out of France. (which why I still say F the French)

Seems much of what passes for "conservative" in Europe isn't.

for me he has similarities to McCain - he says what he thinks whether or not in keeping with his political party and has had to apologise on at least one occasion for doing so.

You never know with Boris. He may say just anything, but I too would be quite surprised, and disappointed, if he was held the same position vis-à-vis Israel as Red Ken. Boris's previous statements do not indicate that he is a anti-Israel, rather the opposite:

Boris Johnson is an enemy of politically correct anti-Zionism

Boris Johnson condemns academic boycott of Israel's universities

Unlike Hizbollah, Mel, Israel is not trying to kill civilians

It's too bad this was moved out of Breaking News. I don't think people realize how huge this story is.

I mean...this guy is rather non-PC...or really anti-PC, and he has just been elected Mayor of London!

Some of his more enjoyable comments:

2001: On gay marriage.

"If gay marriage was OK — and I was uncertain on the issue — then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men; or indeed three men and a dog."

2002: On Britain's Commonwealth
"It is said that the Queen has come to love the Commonwealth, partly because it supplies her with regular cheering crowds of flag-waving piccaninnies."

2004: On his political ambitions

"My chances of being PM (prime minister) are about as good as the chances of finding Elvis on Mars, or my being reincarnated as an olive."

2004: On President George W. Bush

"He liberated Iraq. It is good enough for me."

At the very least, it should be a popcorn moment fairly soon.

I voted for Boris on Thursday and still have the celebration hangover!

Some classic Boris-isms:

“I love tennis with a passion. I challenged Boris Becker to a match once and he said he was up for it but he never called back. I bet I could make him run around.”

“No one obeys the speed limit except a motorised rickshaw”

“Ok, I said to myself as I sighted the bird down the end of the gun. This time, my fine feathered friend, there is no escape. “

“I’m kicking off my diet with cheeseburger — whatever Jamie Oliver says. McDonalds are incredibly nutritious and, as far as I can tell, crammed full of vital nutrients and rigid with goodness.”

“I could not fail to disagree with you less.”

And while we’re at it...
BORIS FOR ENGLAND!!!
