I have the utmost respect for chickens. As a raiser of laying hens, I find the chicken to be one of the most useful critters on the planet.

Eggs.
Feathers for crafts & tying flies for fishing.
Chicken Soup.
Chicken livers fried up w/bacon & onion. Yum!
Jerk Chicken.
BBQ Chicken.
Roast Chicken.
Chicken Quesadillas.
Chicken Salad Sandwiches.

Compost for the garden.

Food for the local Coyotes. (When one dies of natural causes, usually just Old Age, I take it to the end of the farm lane and give it back to Nature.)

They wake me up on time each day.

They really have a calming influence on me. I find their gentle clucking very relaxing...and they will “cuddle up” just like a dog or a cat.

An all around perfect creature. :)

“Feathers for crafts & tying flies for fishing.”

Now you are talking Diana.

Heck, I was wondering what you, Grammy, and I were going to be doing when you retire here in “God’s Country,” the great state of Tennessee.

Fortunately, the state lawmakers here had the good sense, several years ago, to pass a roadkill bill, where it is legal to pick up roadkilled animals of all sorts.

All those deer, possums, chickens, and other creatures make beautiful artificial flies, which have the ability to fool trout and other finned species.

We will start our own fly shop, and then we’ll have to go and test the flies, to make sure they work.

It’ll be hard — all that fishing — but we will do what we have to do. It’s a hard job, but we must stand up to the challenge!!!!
