Iran's top leader said his country would not bend to international pressure and give up its nuclear program, according to state television.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say in all state matters, said Iran would continue its nuclear program despite Western efforts to thwart it with sanctions.

"No threat can hinder the Iranian nation from its path," he said.

The UN Security Council has already imposed three sets of sanctions on Iran for its refusal to halt uranium enrichment, an activity that has fueled suspicions Teheran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons. Iran claims its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. RELATED

Isreal and the U.S. both know what to do but lack the spine to do it. I wish they would do it quickly and get it over with...I’m sick of listening to and reading all the BULL$hit !!

"No threat can hinder the Iranian nation from its path,"

Hillary!08: massive retaliation.

If that's the path, that's the path, and it's not a threat.

It’s easy to forget that out in the burbs of Tehran the good Ayatollah has a home, with a garage, swimming pool, wife, kids etc. Be a shame if those coordinates were dialed into a missile on a fire control deck somewhere in the gulf.

Iran claims its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

It all depends on the meaning of "peaceful". These maniacs firmly believe there will be no real peace in the world without the annihilation of Israel, so we can take them at their word.
They have every intention of launching a preemptive strike as soon as they complete their weapons program. If they are destroyed by a retaliatory strike, so be it. The 12th imam will return, and all will be well.

Right on Golden,

First of all the only thing the Mullahs understand is a kick in the a$$. We could start by bombing Qom, then take it from there.

I predict that we will see a dull red glow over Iran before Bush leaves office. Unlike his Dim predecessors, he won’t want to leave the next President with this problem...

I agree. However, no one has the balls to do it & they know it.

Punch the bully in the nose and this craps stops.

Exactly. Iran is being puppeted by Russia and given assurances of a mutual protection pact. In reality, the only winner of a large scale attack on Israel will be Russia. Assuming nukes are used, the global economy will go from wobbly to collapse. Iran would be obliterated and Russia would profit tremendously.

The West as a whole would be seriously weakened economically. Russia has clearly stated there intentions which are to reclaim lands once held under the Soviet Union such as Ukraine and Georgia. The EU & USA butting heads with them over these nations loyalty carries consequences. My belief is that the efforts of the West for global expansion via economic means has failed. To me it was 30-40 years early in any event to try it. I believe the West should become energy independent as the #1 priority and the side-show should continue to be destroying terrorist proxies until the West is energy independent. Attempting global dominance without unlimited supply has proven catastrophic.

Dull red glow? I'd expect something approximating a short little slice of the surface of the sun.

I don't think so. Bush is all in, waiting to retire and go fishing with Poppy. He thinks of himself as taking the long view now, ie "containment" and hoping for regime change, like Jim Baker, Brent Scowcroft and the rest of the State Department's September Tenth types.
